Jessica Alba gets extremely emotional at the Teen Choice Awards as she calls for an end to gun violence.

Jessica Alba led a tribute to victims of gun violence during the Teen Choice Awards Sunday evening in Los Angeles as she shared the stage with family members of victims from Orlando's Pulse nightclub massacre, Sandy Hook Elementary, and the son of Alton Sterling.

She introduced them along with the cities that represent the countless tragedies:

Here with me tonight are a group of brave teenagers who share an unlikely bond that's hard to comprehend. They are the brothers, sisters, daughters and family members of recent victims of gun violence: I'm talking about Aurora, Baton Rogue, Dallas, Minneapolis, Orlando, San Bernardino, Newtown.

Alba was overwhelmed by the emotional weight of standing with so many relatives of so many people seriously affected by the issue. At one point she apologized for getting choked up before continuing.

She asked the crowd to join them in a call for peace:

Tonight we stand together with these teens, united in our call for peace and an end to this violence. Now, more than ever, we need to stop, feel and ask what's going on.

She then asked that the crowd raise their phones in support, and to share images of their vigil with the hashtag #StopTheViolence:

This was a serious and important gesture of solidarity. And it happened at the Teen Choice Awards, which is better known as a venue for teens screaming at their teen idols on the red carpet.

The new Miss Teen USA goes on Twitter rant to apologize for all those racial slurs she used.

Karlie Hay, the 18-year-old new Miss Teen USA from Texas, is in hot water after people searching the web for the name of the new winner uncovered a history of racist tweets. Even after famously swapping out the swimsuit competition for a more age-appropriate "athletic wear" parade, the pageant managed to bring the controversy.

Our teen, your queen. #MissTeenUSA is Karlie Hay from Texas!

Miss Hay was crowned Miss Teen USA in Las Vegas Saturday night. And soon after, people on Twitter started pointing out that the blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty used the N-word in many a tweet.

The other four finalists shouldn't be using the N-word either.

These are your TOP 5 #MissTeenUSA contestants!

Kamie Crawford, a former Miss Teen USA, commented on the controversy with some advice that should have occurred to Hay before the competition.

For her part, Karlie Hay is very, very sorry. As she explained Sunday night on Twitter:

After her apology, she can now sleep soundly.

Sweet dreams from #MissTeenUSA.

This handy website will help you prove that men are talking too much.

The website Are Men Talking Too Much consists of a simple stopwatch mechanism that provides two buttons. One for "a dude" and one for "not a dude." The buttons help you track the gender of the person speaking and provide a percentage of the total time each gender has been monopolizing the conversation.

This sample was taken at a coffee shop, where a woman asked a man if he would like a refill, and the man included an opinion on her outfit with his answer.

Ever been in a conversation where it felt like men aren't letting you get a word in? This website will help you prove it.

Creator Cathy Deng explains she made this tool because "measuring participation can highlight disproportionality & ultimately make room for more voices."

Applications for this tool are endless. It was inspired for tracking during work meetings where your ideas are being interrupted and/or stolen, but could also be used to track character time on TV or even talking time during a date.

Showing an image of how long a dude has been talking makes it a lot easier to excuse yourself when a dude doesn't check in to make sure you are interested in his story about dropping TVs off the roof of his fraternity.

'The Simpsons' made a fake campaign ad attacking Donald Trump and really went viral.

In a viral clip posted over the weekend, The Simpsonsportrayed Donald Trump as a Hitler speech-reading, dog hair-having, spray-tanned bozo yelling into a phone, and they weren't too far from the truth.

In 1990, Ivana Trump told Vanity Fair that her husband kept a book of Hitler's speeches, My New Order, next to the bed. The gift was reportedly from Trump's friend, Marty Davis, who gave the book to Trump because he thought Trump might find it "interesting." Ivana also revealed that John Walter, Trump's cousin and then-employee, would click his heels together and say, "Heil Hitler" when visiting Trump in his office.

As for Trump's spray tan, his love of Twitter and yelling, that's public knowledge. The only secret The Simpsons writers may have revealed is the dog on his head. It's on Trump to prove that's not a small terrier perched atop his noggin.

The best, worst dressed teens and old people from the Teen Choice Awards 2016 red carpet.

The Teen Choice Awards happened on Sunday, and even though you had no clue, your kids were probably pretty amped about it. The annual ceremony awards surfboards to stars voted on by teens, making it the second highest stakes election going on in America at the moment. Here are the red carpet looks that your teenager is probably going to want to emulate.

1. Keke Palmer channeled the 70s in a sequin jumpsuit.

In the words of Austin Powers, "YEAH BABY YEAH!"

2. Sarah Hyland looked like a fancy folded up napkin, in a good way.

You know, from one of the nice catering halls.

3. Maddie Ziegler traded her nude leotard for a cute romper.

Cute, but still practical if you want to swing from the chandeliers.

4. Ziegler's Dance Moms co-star Chloe Lukasiak kept things professional.

How come all these teenagers can walk in stilettos?

5. Lea Michele wore a bra and a skirt.

And somehow it still looks very tasteful.

6. Nash Grier looks like he had to climb under a fence to get to the awards show.

That shirt looks like the rag your dad uses to wash his car.

7. Jessica Alba's outfit was squiggly.

And her hair was pin straight.

8. Ashley Benson's dress was held together exclusively with napkin holders.

Kendall Jenner wore this Michel Kors dress recently as well.

9. Host John Cena looks like an extra in Guys and Dolls.

While his pro-wrestler girlfriend Nikki Bella opted for a jumpsuit.

10. Cena's co-host Victoria Justice wore a dress that may have gotten caught in a lawn mower.

And shoes you would probably hurt your ankle in.

11. Rowan Blanchard wears the most impressive display of denim since Britney and Justin at the 2001 VMAs.

Also, it looks like she could be selling watches under there.

12. Sofia Carson looks like she is about to call the team into the conference room.

Ain't nothing wrong with being a girl boss.

13. Landry Bender wore an oversized t-shirt cause it's just too damn hot out.

This dress also pairs well with slippers.

14. Charlie Puth held out his olive-green leather jacket, presumably to air out his armpits.

Here's hoping he actually knows the band on his band t-shirt.

15. Tracee Ellis Ross's outfit will make you dizzy if you look too long.

If you stare long enough, an image appears.

16. Gina Rodriguez got really formal.

Someone teach her how to tie a tie, please.

17. Emeraude Toubia forgot to wear pants.

Or she is going for the "sexy flasher" look.

18. August Matura is the mini-version of your grandpa.

Hopefully his pockets are also lined with butterscotch candies.

19. Lavern Cox is ready to give you that night fever, night fe-ver-er-er.

Black is the new black.

20. Lucy Hale's dress is confusing, but also great?

Like a beautiful arts and crafts project.

Britney Spears caught in a Taylor Swift related lie but she's probably just confused.

0

On Monday morning, Australian radio hosts Kyle and Jackie on KIIS 106.5 asked Britney Spears who she'd rather sit next to on a plane, Katy Perry or Taylor Swift. BritBrit answered TayTay, because she said she'd never met her before. That's not entirely true, because Britney and Taylor were photographed together at the 2008 VMAs. But it may not be a lie, either, and it's definitely not "throwing shade," as some people are saying.

In case you're confused and need a little background, the Taylor or Katy question is a little more loaded because of Katy's often documented feud with Taylor.

But when the hosts gave Spears the two choices, she responded, "I don't know, that's hard. They're both so cool, I don't know." Goddamn media, always going after Britney Spears with those "gotcha!" questions.

Kyle and Jackie asked if Spears knew or had a friendship with either of the singers, and she answered: "'I briefly met Katy Perry at the Smurfs movie premiere and I met her there really quick. So maybe because I've met Katy Perry, I would say Taylor Swift because I've never met her before."

Two famous people posing together at an awards show does not a friendship make. Spears might not have met Taylor, she might just have been standing next to her. So get over it. This is Britney, people.

'Teen Wolf' star Tyler Posey apologizes for coming out despite not being gay.

Tyler Posey posted a Snapchat on Friday from New York's West Village neighborhood announcing that he's gay. He posted the video near the famed Stonewall Inn. In the video, he yells "This is me. I am this and this is me. I’ve never felt more alive. I’m gay!” Here's his video, which certainly made it appear as if he was coming out:

The only trouble is that Posey is straight. This of course puzzled his fans and the LGBTQ community, after hundreds saw his Snapchat video on Twitter. He then tweeted a series of apologies:

If his Snapchat was meant to "support the LGBTQ community," he probably should've said "we" instead of "I." But it's not too surprising he slipped up like this on social media. Here are two other recent tweets that reflect things that are seriously important to him:

Many fans would be supportive of him if he was in fact gay and came out. But no one can support an Austin Powers playlist or room service pasta.

Judge loses her cool upon learning female prisoner was denied pants for three days.

On Friday in Louisville, KY, a female defendant wearing no pants appeared before Judge Amber Wolf on misdemeanor charges and claimed that, despite her requests, the jail in which she was held refused to give her any pants (or feminine hygiene products). Judge Wolf was furious about the situation, asking, "Am I in the Twilight Zone? What is happening?" She got on the phone with Metro Corrections right then and there.

The defendant had been arrested several days earlier for failing to complete a diversion program after being charged with shoplifting (her first ever charge), and was subsequently held in jail for two or three days, dressed as she was when she was arrested, which was sans long pants.

Judge Wolf spoke to someone on the phone about the situation, and as an aside to the defendant, she said, "I'm not trying to embarrass you, I'm very sorry. Can we get her something to cover up with? Anything? Anything. I don't care what it is."

Steve Durham, a spokesperson for the jail, told WDRB that the woman had not been in custody long enough to be given a jail jumpsuit. She was apparently wearing shorts, which were covered by her long t-shirt. "This is pretty standard that when individuals are arrested, they remain in the clothing that they’ve been arrested in. Especially for the first 72 hours," he said.

After finding out that the defendant had no other charges, Judge Wolf decided to change the sentence to a $100 fine, with credit for time served. Talking to someone else, the judge can be heard saying: “This is her only charge ever. She should have been in jail for maybe a day, tops." To the defendant she says, "The fact you’re in custody is your fault—you gotta come to court. The rest of this is completely inhumane and unacceptable, and I’m incredibly sorry you had to go through this."

It's the DNC's turn to get roasted by John Oliver, and yet somehow, the conversation returns to Trump.

0
0

John Oliver recapped the DNC on Last Week Tonight, giving the Dems their fair share of ribbing after their convention last week. Oliver hits on all of the more memorable parts of the convention, like the balloons, "human sweater vest" Tim Kaine, and Khizr Khan's moving speech about his Muslim son's sacrifice to the country.

Of course, not being the best at taking criticism, Trump definitely had some words about Mr. Khan's speech, and in turn, Oliver definitely had some words about Mr. Trump.

True, the DNC was far from perfect. In fact, it was a bit of a mess. But Trump made sure that his actions after the convention overshadowed the missteps of the Democrats and put the focus squarely back on what a lunatic he is.

The DNC resulted in a 10-point poll bump in Hillary's favor, but maybe she should be thanking the Donald as well. The more he talks, the better she seems to do.

Facebook bans body-positive underwear ads before backpedaling and endorsing them.

A British lingerie company had their ad campaign reinstated after having been ripped from Facebook for violating the site's advertising policy. Facebook's fine print prohibits "ads that promote sexual acts, sexual videos and publications (ex: magazines, blogs, Pages), strip clubs or adult shows."

Scantilly's ads, which featured a transgender woman, an amputee, and a woman with alopecia, did not "Promote sexual acts...strip clubs, or adult shows," but rather just sought to feature "a diverse range of hot women, all spreading an inspirational and empowering message."

The campaign, called #TheNewSexy, features beautiful women with diverse backgrounds, stories, and even stomach rolls. The initial ban took down Effie's story first:

Then a post about half-cup bras.

Scantilly's Hannah Ischei started a social media campaign to reinstate the campaign, and successfully got both a reversal and an apology from Facebook.

“There is still such a lack of diversity in the media and we wanted to share this image to challenge social ‘norms’," wrote a spokesperson for Curvy Kate wrote on their site.

"#TheNewSexy calls for women of all shapes, backgrounds, looks and sizes to be represented in the media and looks to redefine how society views the word ‘sexy’," they continued.

It's nice to have them back.

Chrissy Teigen destroys the Miss Teen USA pageant in a single tweet.

On Saturday, 18-year-old Texan Karlie Hay was named Miss Teen USA and immediately found herself embroiled in controversy. Cyber-sleuths found that in the past, she frequently, and casually, used the n-word—but she's not the only thing a little off about this beauty pageant. As lovable supermodel Chrissy Teigen noticed, the five top-ranked contestants all could be clones:

Yup, those are five blonde, blue-eyed young women. (Some of them might have technically grey or green eyes, if you look really, really closely.) Of course, there's nothing wrong with that, as Teigen points out.

That must be reassuring for Karlie Hay and the other contestants, most of whom are probably also named Karlie.

Justin Timberlake removes foot from mouth during inspiring speech at the Teen Choice awards.

Justin Timberlake tweeted his foot into his mouth earlier this summer when commenting on the BETs, but his thoughtful speech at yesterday's Teen Choice Awards was a concerted attempt to remove that foot.

In an acceptance speech for winning the Decade Award for his musical contributions, the 35-year-old pop star addressed the controversy that stemmed from him tweeting that he was "#inspired" by Jesse Williams' groundbreaking speech about race and cultural appropriation at the BET Awards in June. The Internet responded by pointing out the hypocrisy of Timberlake, a very successful white R&B singer, being "inspired" by a speech calling out cultural appropriation.

Like most public debacles, the issue wasn't even Timberlake being #inspired, but his response to being called out, writing in a since-deleted tweet:

As many pointed out, this went against the whole point of Williams' speech.

Yesterday, Timberlake attempted to clear up the confusion. "My parents did their best to fill my young mind not with prejudice or hate but with compassion and love," he said, adding: "The truth is we are all different, but that does not mean we all don’t want the same thing."

He also said a lot of other stuff that showed he's been doing some serious reflecting about these issues. And that is, genuinely, #inspiring.

Angry teens of Twitter are convinced the Teen Choice Awards were rigged.

Sunday night, stars gathered in Los Angeles for one of the most prestigious award shows in entertainment: the Teen Choice Awards. But apparently, underneath the glitz and glamour of the show lies a deep-seeded conspiracy. Apparently, the awards are rigged, and the teens know it, so they took to Twitter during the show to express their outrage.

The most commonly expressed sentiment was one of "I know this is rigged but I will continue to watch it."

The difference between the Teen Choice Awards and a show like the Oscars is that there's no committee voting on the awards. It's all based on a fan voting process online.

But some didn't care about the so called "rigging" as long as their favorites benefited from it.

Whether or not the show is actually a big scam, we're with this girl.

Don't you just love a good Hollywood scandal?

Thirsty dude messages his ex's dad to get her number, gets schooled instead.

Some thirsty guy who dated a woman named Skylar reached out to his ex's dad hoping for her number. Instead, he got seriously schooled. Because hell hath no fury like a father protecting his daughter from a dude with a topless selfie.

No shirt, no shoes, no "douter."
You can skip either a shirt or chest day at daycare but not both.
Learning to spell "hey" will get you far.
If you love someone, set them free or whatever. If she's my daughter.
Yeah, you can't date my daughter.

The reason is "no."

What she really really qonts is NOT you, brah.

Shirt: $20 dollars. Spelling and grammar lessons: $100. Life lessons from your ex's dad? Priceless.

People are mad at this sexist Gap ad for kids' clothes but there's also a hilarious misspelling.

0
0

A Gap ad for children's clothing in the UK caused backlash for being sexist and then things got interesting when consumers noticed it also contained a hilarious spelling error. The ad originally angered people because it featured a boy labeled "the little scholar" while the girl was named "the social butterfly." That naturally pissed people off.

Here's the ad in full. See if you can spot that spelling error:

You may have been looking at the text, but the spelling error is actually on the boy's t-shirt:

Nice work, "Einstien."

Yes, in an ad that thoughtlessly played into terrible gender stereotypes about boys being smarter than girls, they misspelled Einstein's name. Can you even imagine what happened to both the Gap buyer that approved the shirt and the graphic design team trying that created the ad?

People were confounded as to how this ad could happen, and made sure to question why the girl was also wearing sparkly cat ears:

The Gap UK has yet to respond on Twitter. Hopefully nobody actually got fired and had to hand in their cat ears.

Moms with breastfeeding infants refused entry to a showing of 'Bad Moms.'

On Friday night, two women in a group of friends (50 women in total) were told by the management at a Regal Cinema in Fort Myers, FL that they couldn't bring their infants with them to see the movie Bad Moms.

The women, Brookynn Cahill and Juliana Valverde, had young babies who they were still breastfeeding, so they figured they'd just bring the babies with them, but they were told they couldn't, because the showing of the R-rated movie was at 7:45 p.m. Kids under the age of six are only allowed into R-rated movies with their parents if the showing is before 6 p.m.

The management offered to let the moms with the babies see Ice Age: Collision Course instead, but that wasn't the movie they came to see, and besides, they wanted to be with their friends. Cahill told News-Press, "I think that they have a right to have their rules for their theater. But I think it needs to be a little different with the age limit. Young babies are sleeping and being perfectly fine. If our babies are going to make a noise, we know how to handle this situation."

After the two moms pretended to see Ice Age and snuck into Bad Moms instead, the manager caught them and made them leave.

To make matters worse, not only he not let the women speak to any of his higher-ups, he also demanded that Valverde, who was feeding her baby while speaking to him, cover up. Breastfeeding in public is legal in Florida.

One of the women, Amber Cebull, told the manager that they weren't going to stay, and he refunded the cost of the tickets to at least 35 women in the group who left. Those women went to a nearby cantina to enjoy themselves there instead. No Bad Mom left behind.

Here are all the nouns trendy moms are naming their babies this summer.

Last year, the hottest baby names were all about Instagram filters and characters from Empire. Now a new list of trending names has emerged, and it's chock full of… nouns.

To stay on top of the trends, a baby name blog called Nameberry cross-referenced page views on their website to see which names were experiencing the most dramatic increases in attention compared to last year. Turns out moms are still heavily influenced by pop-culture; celebrity names are all over the lists and movie characters earned the number one spots for both girls and boys.

The rest of the names are just really cool nouns.

Woman kicked out of Six Flags for "inappropriate" shirt. Her guy friend put it on and got in.

As if life weren't already enough of a roller coaster, this young woman was kicked out of an amusement park for her attire—and no, the attire in question wasn't a pair of nipple pasties, but rather a gray V-neck like you might see in Gap's athletic section. Bina Ramesh was wearing the gray tee when she went to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ last month, and was told by a male security guard that in order to enter the park, she'd have to change her shirt.

As Banesh explained in a Facebook post, she and her good sport of a guy friend did a little shirt-swap to prove that there was nothing innately offensive about the gray shirt itself.

As I was entering Six Flags I was stopped by security because my top was considered inappropriate for the park's...

Posted by Bina Ramesh on Sunday, July 10, 2016

"Apparently, when a boy wears the same top, it's fine, so thank you for swapping shirts with me in the parking lot because we still live in a world of ridiculous double standards and sexism," she wrote.

In the comments, she posted a picture of her wearing the offending shirt.

Shield your eyes!

"This is me wearing the scandalous horribly inappropriate see through top, please children shield your eyes," she wrote as the photo's caption. So keep in mind before you visit Six Flags this summer: if riding a roller coaster after eating fried dough won't make you nauseous, sexism will!
