Grieving mom asks Reddit to restore a treasured memory of her son and they deliver.

Sometimes Christmas miracles happen where you least expect them: on Reddit. Angela McElhiney, who lost her 15-year-old son Nathan to suicide in October, was desperate to fix the sound quality on a video she has of him singing "Wayfaring Stranger."

The song is particularly meaningful to her now, because "it's about someone going, basically, to heaven," she told CNN."It was such a bad recording and I just wanted to be able to hear him better. Right now, I feel like it's very therapeutic because I feel like it's the journey he's taking."

Here is the original video:

Nathan, a straight A student with Broadway aspirations, has a beautiful voice. But the performance was held in a school gymnasium so there is a lot of distracting background noise.

McElhiney posted the video on Reddit and asked if anyone could help her fix the audio.

The grieving mother got way more help than she ever imagined.

McElhiney said her inbox was soon flooded with messages from audio engineers and movie sound editors offering to help, as well as messages of condolence and support from kind strangers.

She received about 20 remixed version of the video, including this one from a Redditor in the Netherlands:

And this one from a musician who stayed up until 2 am working on two versions of the video:

This is the family's first Christmas without Nathan, and McElhiney said watching and listening to the remixed videos has provided a welcome distraction.

"I never expected so much kindness and so many people taking time out of their day," she said. "We can't express our gratitude enough."

    Go hug the internet today.

The mortal world lost Carrie Fisher today and none of us are taking it well. The actress known best for depicting Princess Leia in the original Star Wars passed away this morning at age 60, days after suffering a heart attack on a flight on Friday.

The Star Wars cast and crew, including Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, and series creator George Lucas, are mourning her death with as many words as they can muster:

The director of Star Wars: Episode IX tweeted:

Even Darth Vader himself weighed in:

And Star Wars creator George Lucas released this heartbreaking statement:

Carrie and I have been friends most of our adult lives. She was extremely smart; a talented actress, writer and comedienne with a very colorful personality that everyone loved.

In Star Wars she was our great and powerful princess – feisty, wise and full of hope in a role that was more difficult than most people might think. My heart and prayers are with Billie, Debbie and all Carrie’s family, friends and fans. She will be missed by all.

Harrison Ford, whose off-screen romance with Fisher she recently revealed in her new book, said:

Carrie was one-of-a-kind…brilliant, original. Funny and emotionally fearless. She lived her life, bravely…My thoughts are with her daughter Billie, her mother Debbie, her brother Todd, and her many friends. We will all miss her.

The Force will be with you always, Carrie Fisher.

Canadians prove they have the most chill by using frozen streets as an ice skating rink.

Some might see a half-inch of sheet ice covering the frozen streets and think "life is a waking nightmare and I'm never leaving the house again!!!" But not these stoic Canadians from the city of Ottawa, Ontario. Over the holiday weekend, freezing rain turned the streets to ice, making driving impossible. So some bold young souls strapped on their ice skates and turned the streets into an ice skating rink.

We can all learn from these Canadians.

Like this girl, who is having the time of her life (and is also polite to her mother!):

Carrie Fisher passed away today. Just when we all thought 2016 couldn't possibly break our hearts any worse. But as sad as we are, it can't compare to how Fisher's beloved French bulldog, Gary Fisher, must feel. The heartbroken pup has been posting well wishes to his mom on own personal Twitter account over the weekend and up until today, when he began mourning his late mom/BFF.

Warning: the following may cause uncontrollable weeping.

On Friday, Fisher was hospitalized after she suffered a major heart attack on board a flight, and "Gary" tweeted this:

Then on Christmas Eve he tweeted:

Then this morning, he confirmed Fisher's death with his heartbreaking tweet:

Then, as if we haven't cried enough, this afternoon he tweeted this:

Gary, who was certified as a service animal to help Fisher with her bipolar disorder, accompanied Fisher to awards shows, filming, TV interviews, her latest book tour and even the White House Correspondents' Dinner. He also has his own Instagram account, where he posted this adorable pic of him cuddling with his mom just last week:

I'm sorry I put you through this, I really am. But it's comforting to know the beloved actress had such a loyal and loving pal, up until the very end.

Here's hoping this year's seasonal depression finally helps you catch up on all the tv shows you've been meaning to watch.

Terrified fans are trying to protect Betty White from the curse of 2016.

2016 has hardened us all. At this point, we're not relaxing until the clock officially strikes twelve on New Year's Eve, as clearly bad things could happen up until the last minute. On Tuesday, we lost Carrie Fisher, an actor, writer and outspoken mental health activist who gave young girls role models long before Disney princesses were something to aspire to. Naturally, people started thinking about other treasured celebrities who are older or in a fragile state, namely: Betty White.

One guy went so far as to start a fundraiser titled "Help protect Betty White from 2016." The fundraiser's creator, Demetrios Hrysikos, has a "joke" goal of raising $2,000 to "help 2016 catch these hands if it goes anywhere near Betty White!" Hrysikos wrote, "if she's okay with it I will fly to where ever Betty White is and keep her safe till Jan 1, 2017." But the campaign is actually all about raising money for the arts. All proceeds will in fact go to a local theater, Spartanburg Little Theater. Here's how Hrysikos said he got the idea:

"2016 has taken so many great artists and SLT helps support and nurture new budding talent in our town. I'd like to think that Betty , Carrie, and Bowie would be happy with any proceeds going to that cause , which I assure you it WILL! This has been unexpected but let's make it a good thing ! We need new artists to carry the mantel of all the great ones we lost this year so keep sharing and donating to ensure a better 2017 for the arts."

He's right. And it's a great idea to put aside our sentimentality and the prevailing feeling that everything we love is being slowly taken from us, when actually we are creating new things to love and appreciate all the time. That's the beauty of humanity, baby. It just keeps going. That being said, people are still really protective of Betty White. Hrysikos apparently tapped into the zeitgeist of late 2016, and now everyone on Twitter is getting really nervous about keeping White safe from the cruelty of 2016. Here's what they're saying about everyone's favorite Golden Girl:

Ariana Grande slams sexist fan for objectifying her: 'I am not a piece of meat.'

Ariana Grande is speaking out against sexism and the objectificationof women after a troubling encounter with a young fan on Tuesday night. The "Dangerous Woman" singer posted about the interaction on Twitter, detailing how a young man casually and openly objectified her by telling her boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller, that Grande is "sexy as hell" that he can see him "hitting that."

    Gross gross gross gross gross.

"It hurts my heart that so many young people are so comfortable enough using these phrases and objectifying women with such ease," writes Grande in her post. "I felt like speaking out about this one experience tonight because I know very well that most women know the sensation of being spoken about in an uncomfortable way publicly or taken advantage of publicly by a man."

Grande even taught a fan a thing or two about how sexism works after she accused the singer of being a hypocrite because she "objectifies herself" in her music.

    Hey, that's not a thing!

Another fan asked Grande how Miller handled the situation, and it sounds like he did a good job comforting his partner.

Ariana Grande is right— too many young people are comfortable with casual sexism, and we have to hold each other accountable and speak out against this behavior. Even Grande, who is a talented, successful woman, has been reduced to some rapper's sexy arm candy, but luckily she is not the type of gal to take the misogyny lying down.

    Keep slaying, Queen.

Carrie Fisher died yesterday, leaving a lot of heartbroken family, friends, and fans behind, including her Star Wars co-star, Mark Hamill. Hamill played Luke Skywalker, of course, brother of Fisher's iconic Princess Leia.

Mark Hamill sent out a tweet upon learning of Fisher's death, but later wrote a longer tribute to his former "space twin" on Facebook.

    His full post reads:

It's never easy to lose such a vital, irreplaceable member of the family, but this is downright heartbreaking. Carrie was one-of-a-kind who belonged to us all- whether she liked it or not. She was OUR Princess, damn it, & the actress who played her blurred into one gorgeous, fiercely independent & ferociously funny, take-charge woman who took our collective breath away. Determined & tough, but with a vulnerability that made you root for her & want her to succeed & be happy. She played such a crucial role in my professional & personal life, & both would have been far emptier without her. I am grateful for the laughter, the wisdom, the kindness & even the bratty, self-indulgent crap my beloved space-twin gave me through the years. Thanks Carrie. I love you, mh

After weeks of dating rumors, Jennifer Lopez and Aubrey Graham (Drake, guys, it's Drake), seemed to confirm their relationship by posting the same intimate photo to Instagram at the same time. And if that's not the celebrity equivalent of a promise ring, what is?

    Is Drake dating Jennifer Lopez?

Or is Jennifer Lopez dating Drake?

A photo posted by Jennifer Lopez (@jlo) on

Before you picture Drake and Jennifer Lopez on the phone with one another, trying to time their uploads at exactly the same time but having trouble because Drake's internet speed is so much faster, here's some stuff you need to know and understand. This will also help you chuckle at all the jokes on Twitter for the next 24 hours.

    Things you need to understand:

    • Jennifer Lopez dated Puff Daddy in the late 90s, early 00s.
    • People thought Drake was dating Rihanna this summer, and he once said of RiRi: "She's someone I've been in love with since I was 22-years-old."
    • Drake and J. Lo are celebrities. Drake the celebrity is 30-years-old. J.Lo the celebrity is 47-years-old.
    • People thought Drake and Taylor Swift were dating this summer.
    • Drake's best song is "Under Ground Kings" (this is not relevant, and highly disputable).

Great, now you should be able to understand everything that's currently melting together on Twitter into one big freak out:

Football fan gets revenge on the fiancé who was dumb enough to dump her by text.

Brenna Clanton, lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and recent recipient of a breakup text (yes, text!) from a now ex-fiancé, got revenge by showing her ex just how much fun she's having without him in picture that's since gone viral on Twitter.

At the Monday night Dallas Cowboys game against the Detroit Lions in Arlington, TX, Alex McDaniel, the editor in chief of the Oxford Eagle and Oxford Press, tweeted a picture of Clanton holding a sign that read, "My fiancé dumped me in a text message. He should have waited until after Christmas."

That's because, according to McDaniel's tweet, Clanton, 30, had bought these great seats for the football game for them (and booked an Airbnb) before he dumped her in late October, over text message, claiming that they had "nothing in common" (which was one of the hashtags included on her handwritten sign, along with "ghosting," "MNF," and "ESPN").

In her tweet, McDaniel also added, "She's doing fine."

In an interview with Dallas News, Clanton related being at work (she's a hairstylist) one day in October and getting a breakup text from the man who'd asked to marry her just four months before. "That threw me for a loop," she said.

But she didn't let that stop her from enjoying the game without him. She explained, "I was absolutely going to go. I was just going to take my best friend instead." Just like that old saying, the best revenge is served cold, during a football game.

Here is President-elect Donald Trump's latest controversial tweet.

There are a lot of weird things about this tweet. First of all, Trump is not President yet, and so shouldn't we be thanking President Obama for the surge? Next, those caps. Oy. Aggressive. Weirdest of all, of course, is Donald Trump thanking himself in the third person at the end of the tweet. Perhaps he is making a #ThanksObama joke that just didn't land? Or is he prompting others to thank him? WHY DOES THIS MAN DO THE THINGS HE DOES!?

Well, if his intention to prompt people into thanking him, Twitter surely delivered by making a #ThanksDonald hashtag. However, these sarcastic tweets are almost certain to trigger the Whiner-in-Chief, so expect him to have his next social media breakdown in 3...2...

George Michael was an icon and a pioneer in many ways, but did you know we might not have Carpool Karaoke without him?

In 2011, James Corden's first-ever Carpool Karaoke (which starred, of course, George Michael) aired on the BBC as part of a show to benefit the British charity Comic Relief, long before he was the host of TheLate Late Show.

James Corden talked about making the first segment in an interview with Howard Stern back in June.

"We sat in the car and we were singing Wham! songs, and we couldn't really put our finger on: 'Why is this so joyful?' " he told Stern. "There's just a joy in it and we couldn't really work out why."

Corden also revealed that George Michael's segment helped convince Mariah Carey to be his first guest when Carpool Karaoke made its debut on The Late Late Show.

Corden posted a tribute to Michael on Twitter following the singer's death.

Here are the most cringe-worthy tweets from brands capitalizing on Carrie Fisher's death.

You cannot trust brands. Just when you think they might be smart enough to stay out of delicate or controversial conversations on Twitter, they simply cannot keep themselves away. Inevitably, they say something that reveals that ultimately all any brand cares about is selling more product. As the world mourned the loss and celebrated the life of actor Carrie Fisher on Tuesday, corporate America couldn't help but jump into the mix. They truly never learn.

Cinnabon was the most chastised offender for this since-deleted Tweet:

Cinnamon buns as insidious product placement, courtesy of Cinnabon.

But other brands did some similarly unsavory self-promotion while trying to honor Fisher:

    Why would you do this?
Crazy to believe this ever seemed like a good idea.
This tweet got one more like than it should have, but at least it did terribly.

All of the above tweets have been deleted, proving that "Never Tweet" is still the best and only mantra for everybody on this earth, but Cinnabon was the only one to issue an apology.

Will we learn from our mistakes? Most definitely not. At times it seems like the only constant in this world is that companies will continue to try and make themselves seem like innocuous entities worthy of our affection, but as Gawker writer Sam Biddle best put it, Brands Are Not Your Friends. Some argued on Twitter over whether Fisher, who was known for her wonderful sense of humor, would have taken offense at the Cinnabon tweet:

But whether or not Fisher would have liked the homage to her buns from the mall food court staple is beside the point. Ultimately, when brands attempt to chime in on sensitive conversations, it creates a disconnect. It takes a conversation about a real person and turns it into a chance for a brand to remind you that they exist. At its most sinister, it's a chance for a brand to send you the false message that they're human, and they're on the right side of the conversation, all as a means of improving your sentiment towards their product. Is it wrong for a brand to want to sell more product? Of course not. But should a brand capitalize on the death of a notable person, or the memorial of an emotional event to do so? Probably not. But brands don't want to learn that the general population doesn't enjoy when they chime in on these conversations.

    Remember the SpaghettiOs gaffe?

    Or Cheerios' Prince remembrance?

Or most recently, the 9/11 "tribute" by Coke and Walmart?

    JUST. STOP. DOING. THIS.

Angry nerds attack writer who pointed out women's healthcare could have prevented Darth Vader.

SPOILER ALERT. This post contains spoilers for Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. But if you haven't seen this movie yet, you might as well accept you never will.

Writer Sarah Jeong recently watched all three Star Wars prequels for work. (Let's hope she was well-paid.) Seeing these movies for the first time since childhood, she noticed a lot of plot holes she never had before—the biggest of which relates to Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman) and her ill-fated pregnancy.

In Revenge of the Sith, it is Anakin Skywalker's premonition that Padmé will die in childbirth that drives him to accept the dark side and become Darth Vader. Of course, it is this very decision that ends up causing her death (of sadness or something), leading to a tragic ending that would be worthy of Shakespeare if it made sense.

But as Jeong pointed out in a viral Twitter rant, Padmé's life would never have been in danger if she had had access to basic women's healthcare. But apparently, being a galactic senator (and former planet queen) in a hyper-futuristic universe doesn't include that in its benefits package.

This is a really good point. How could nobody know she was having twins? Was Jar Jar her doula?

Jeong's tweets quickly went viral. Many Twitter users were on her side.

But of course, a lot of die-hard prequelheads found Jeong's lack of faith disturbing.

And Jeong was more than happy to go toe-to-toe with these Sith Rights Activists.

It's sad that after a decade, some nerds still can't handle people criticizing the prequels.

The police department in Marietta, Georgia, have taken to Facebook to mock a seriously dumb criminal for making their lives too easy.

These cops apparently got into police work for some sort of epic Catch Me If You Can lifestyle, but have instead settled for that of a 17-year-old, writing sarcastic Facebook posts and racking up the likes.

"A request to the gentleman who shoplifted from one of our local pawn shops today," wrote the police to a man who allegedly lifted a $200 military knife.

Sir, you must have forgot that you gave the clerk your driver's license with ALL of your personal information as well as providing him with your fingerprint when completing the pawn ticket before you stole from him which, by the way, was also all on camera.

The cops seem to give this guy a lot of credit—assuming he's both coherent and perceptive enough to consider the consequences before making a desperate swipe for the knife. In all honesty, this guy's probably not well. But hey, keep roasting him!

"Please at least try to hide," the cops continued, encouraging a police chase. "The judge has already signed the warrant. When you make it this easy it takes all the fun out of chasing bad guys!"

Clearly, the authorities caught this guy, and they followed up with another Facebook post:

Fortunately (for us) he turned out to be just as bad at hide & seek as he is at stealing. He was picked up by our Morning Watch Officers after a search, it was quite short.... We also found all of his drugs and the stolen property he took from the pawn shop! He is currently being watched over by the Deputies at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center!
