McDonald's worker heroically leaps through drive-thru window to save a customer's life.

0
0

A South Florida McDonald's worker named Pedro Viloria went into hero mode and leapt through the drive-thru window to help a customer he was serving when she stopped breathing, NBC reports.

He didn't realize it at the time but the customer, who had her two kids in the car, was an off-duty police officer. "What! I saved an officer's life? I can't believe this," said Viloria, 22. He said when he went to hand her the food, "I see she hardly breathing and I thought that's not normal." (Correct, that is not normal!)

Then he realized she didn't have control of the car, which started moving. So he jumped through the window. "I ran as fast as I could, put myself in front of the car," he said.

The heroic leap was captured on surveillance camera:

Luckily the car hit a curb which prevented it from sliding into traffic. And rescue workers arrived quickly to help. The off-duty cop was rushed to the hospital and is in stable condition.

"She's alive and that's enough, if I had to die to save that woman I would have," Viloria said. When asked why he would risk his own life to save a complete stranger's, he replied: "my brain was on hero mode!"

Apparently this is pretty typical behavior for Viloria, who definitely deserves a raise and a paid vacation. "He is an excellent employee, so it didn't surprise me that he took immediate action and jumped through a window to help save this woman," said the owner of the McDonald's, Alex Menendez. "And he was not the only member of the team that played a pivotal role in ensuring she received the medical attention she needed. A second employee, who asked to remain unnamed, assisted with CPR."

Well, well, well. Looks like sometimes McDonald's SAVES lives. Yet another reason to not #BoycottMcDonalds today. You're welcome.

People are loving Rachel Maddow's quick response to a guest accidentally calling her 'sir.'

At the very end of an interview with Congressman Bill Pascrell on Donald Trump's tax returns, MSNBC superstar Rachel Maddow thanked her guest for weighing in on her new signature issue.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=286&v=v_Wh9C0Aaa8

"Congressman Bill Pascrell is a member of the House Ways and Means Committe who's pushing as hard as anybody on this issue. Congressman, thanks for being with us tonight. Keep us apprised, sir."

"Thank you, sir," responded Pascrell reflexively, before correcting himself and shutting his eyes in apparent embarrassment. "Ma'am."

"It's alright, I answer to both," responded a laughing Rachel Maddow. "It's actually quite convenient in really unexpected places. You'd be surprised."

Her fans quickly jumped to their keyboards to praise Maddow's graceful response to the "misgendered flub."

The funniest tweets about McDonald's going rogue and calling Donald Trump 'disgusting.'

On Thursday morning, the official McDonald's Corporate Twitter account tweeted out the following sharply-worded criticism of President Donald Trump.

Shots fired!

The company quickly deleted the tweet, and blamed it on hackers.

But by that point, the damage was done. Everyone on the internet had screenshots of the tweet, and it was already going viral.

Donald vs. Ronald: The Battle for America's Hearts.

And because they love nothing more than piling on President Trump, comedians on Twitter immediately started cracking jokes about it. Here are the funniest ones we could find.

Sure, Trump has already alienated the scientific community, people of color, LGBT Americans, the CIA, almost every other country, and the media. But beef with McDonald's? This is where America draws the line.

Fitness blogger's viral before/after photos show 'progress' doesn't always mean weight loss.

0
0

Before-and-after photos are all the rage on Instagram. And usually these "transformation" photos show someone who lost weight or got super-fit. But "progress" doesn't have to mean getting skinny or gaining muscle tone.

For fitness blogger Joanne Encarnacion, it was the opposite. The mother-of-two posted these photos side-by-side on Instagram—one from October 2016 and one current photo, to show herself (and others) that gaining weight and losing muscle does not have to be a "failure":

"I am failure for not sticking to consistently training and for not eating as clean as I should have." This is the story I could be telling myself. This is the opinion that could've turn into a fact. I once heard that our reality is largely made up of our perceptions and beliefs, not facts. And that our ideas and theories are based on experiences and opinions, so much so that we start to create stories from these views and judgements. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So instead of writing a failure story, I chose to look at this set of progress pictures taken a few days ago and tell myself a different story. "Well Jo, you haven't put as much energy into your fitness commitments and IT'S 👌🏾. It doesn't make you less of an example of a strong woman. Since October of last year you were working on recovering from a shoulder injury, rebuilding a marriage that was close to divorce, raising two young women (including an emotional teenager), creating long lasting friendships with women you once felt unworthy to be around, and most importantly going back to school to start a career in health and life coaching that you've been day dreaming about for almost 2 years. Living a HEALTHY LIFE means nourishing all the areas that make you whole. Your fitness is just a part of that. You're a bad ass Jo and you have what it takes to get your groove back. Other areas in your life needed your energy more than you needed to focus on leaning out." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The chatter in your head will try to find meaning in it because this obstacle is clearly telling you that your dream isn’t supposed to happen. Remind yourself that society has romanticized a concept of what beauty, fitness, and loving yourself looks like. The power to define what beauty means to you is within you. You are the source of your reality. You are the creator of your story. On this part of #therefinedcollective we're talking about "Loving Yourself in the Skin You're In" and on www.gofitjo.com I've shared 6 very powerful things to do when you're beginning to feel the resistance in loving yourself. #linkinbio ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #TheRefinedCollective series was written in collaboration with several incredible women sharing their positivity and light to the 🌎.

A post shared by JOANNE ENCARNACION (@gofitjo) on

In the caption, she gave herself—and all of us—an inspiring pep talk about body image and confidence.

"'I am failure for not sticking to consistently training and for not eating as clean as I should have.' This is the story I could be telling myself," she wrote. But instead of turning this opinion "into a fact," she shifted her perspective.

"'Well Jo, you haven't put as much energy into your fitness commitments and IT'S 👌🏾," she told herself. "It doesn't make you less of an example of a strong woman."

Honestly, people—and especially women—don't hear this nearly enough. From themselves or from society.

Encarnacion continued:

"Since October of last year you were working on recovering from a shoulder injury, rebuilding a marriage that was close to divorce, raising two young women (including an emotional teenager), creating long lasting friendships with women you once felt unworthy to be around, and most importantly going back to school to start a career in health and life coaching that you've been day dreaming about for almost 2 years. AMEN SISTER.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with losing weight or getting in shape (so you don't have to cancel your gym membership). But this is another important reminder that health and happiness don't have to look a certain way. And sometimes the biggest "transformations" are internal.

Is Khloé Kardashian wearing an engagement ring or just a Kardashian ring?

0
0

Khloé Kardashian threw her boyfriend Tristan Thomas a big birthday party Wednesday night. She shared some photos and videos from the event on social media, and... oh! What's that? A giant sparkly ring on Khloé Kardashian's finger?!

Many people are of course speculating that the huge, glittering rock on Khloé's finger may mean that she and Tristan Thomas are engaged. However, we should keep in mind that Khloé is a Kardashian, and the big, sparkly ring could just be a part of her everyday wardrobe.

She posted a video to Snapchat that captures the ring close-up.

Are wedding bells in the air for Khloé Kardashian? Or is this just one of the big sparkly rings she keeps on hand (HA!) for casual wear? Only time will tell.

Ill-advised St. Patrick's Day t-shirt offends everyone with tasteless booze joke.

This St. Patrick's Day t-shirt is a prime example of why you should never mix drinking and branding meetings. Because honestly, you'd have to be pretty inebriated to think this was a good idea:

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

It looks familiar, right? Of course, this is blatantly coopting the phrase "Black Lives Matter," which came about as a response to police officers keep killing unarmed black people. Nothing about the phrase "Black Lives Matter" says "please make me into a silly drinking pun for frat bros to spill beer all over!"

This actual real t-shirt is for sale at everyone's favorite clothing store, PubCrawls.com, for $19.95, which is also an offensive price for a dumb t-shirt that you can only wear once a year. Oh and, great, there's a women's version as well!

The makers of this tee-shirt also directly copied the Black Lives Matter logo, pictured here:

Really? PubCrawls.com, reeeeeally? You couldn't even come up with your own artwork to go with your stolen slogan? Sad!

The item's description reads: "Explore this year's New York City St Paddy's Pub Crawl in Style!" And frankly, that just seems like a really bad idea.

I mean look, I love a good joke. But if you're going to make one about "Black Lives Matter," make it a good one. And if it's a bad one, like "drunk lives matter," maybe don't put it on a shirt and wear it in public on the drunkest night of the year, in New York City. Or anywhere else, really.

Happy St. Paddy's Day! Remember to drink—and dress—responsibly.

Here’s how things would have gone differently if ‘BBC Dad’ was ‘BBC Mom.'

Last week, a hilarious video of a two kids crashing their father's Skype call live on the BBC went viral. If you somehow haven't seen it yet, check out the comedy of errors below.

Political scientist Robert E. Kelly has lovingly been dubbed "BBC Dad" by the internet, and the ridiculous video has been discussed, parodied, and meme'd into oblivion over the past seven days.

New Zealand-based comedy show Jono and Ben also gave their take on the interview-gone-wrong with a hilarious parody video that asks how things would have gone down if "BBC Dad" were actually "BBC Mom." Pretty differently, according to this spoof.

Feeding a toddler, making dinner and defusing a bomb all while working from home? Yep, that sounds about right.

Don Lemon goes full 'Billy Madison' on Sean Spicer's latest 'dumb' press conference.

CNN host Don Lemon invoked one of the most overused movie quotes of all time, but Billy Madison was the only way to make sense of Sean Spicer this time. Spicer offered a rambling defense of Donald Trump's bipartisanly debunked "wiretapping" claims, and Don Lemon could hardly stomach it.

"Did anyone see Billy Madison, the game show scene?" responded Lemon after playing a brutal clip of Sean Spicer's verbal gymnastics from a Thursday press conference.

You know that quote? "'Everyone in this room is dumber for having listened to that?' I hope that you're not dumber, and I hope that we're providing you information."

"Just to be clear," continued Don Lemon, communicator to millennials, in response to Spicer's claims, "No one mischaracterized what the Senate intel said. Here's the statement: 'Based on the information available to us, we see no indication that Trump Tower was the subject of surveillance by any element of the United States government, either before or after election day 2016.'"

To supplement, here's what the House Intelligence Chairman, a Republican named Devin Nunes, said (via Politico): "Are you going to take the tweets literally? If you are, then clearly the president was wrong."

(That last one's just for fun.)

Spicer's argument seems to be against taking the president's words as words. Here's the transcript of the Sean Spicer comments that Don Lemon was reacting to specifically. Warning: you will be dumber for having read them.

I think that there's been a — a vast amount of reporting which I just detailed, about activity that was going on in the 2016 election. There was no question that there was surveillance techniques used throughout this.

I think by — by a variety of outlets that have reported this activity concluded. So and I think when you actually ask those two people whether or not and as Chairman Nunes said yesterday, when you take it literally in wire-tapping, the president's already been very clear that he didn't mean specifically wire tapping, he had it in quotes.

So I think to fall back on that is a false — is a false premise, that's not what he said. He was very clear about that when he talked about it yesterday, major.

Homeless man undergoes incredible makeover and cries tears of joy when he looks in the mirror.

In this moving video, a homeless man in Spain is given an incredible makeover in a fancy salon and ends up almost unrecognizable. The man's name is Jose Antonio, and the salon is La Salvajeria, in Palma de Mallorca.

The video was made in 2015 but was just posted this week in honor of the salon's third anniversary, according to the Huffington Post.

In the video, Jose Antonio, a former electrician, explains how he became homeless in 1990 after suffering a period of depression. In 2015, he was working as a parking lot attendant and saving money to rent a room.

Jose Antonio used to park the car of Salva Garcia, the owner of the salon, and Garcia would joke about cutting off his long hair. Antonio's hope was to get a full-time job, but he knew his long, unkempt hair and beard could hold him back from that, so he finally agreed to the free makeover.

Speaking to La Vanguardia newspaper, Garcia said, "At first, he didn't want to, but one day he changed his mind."

The transformation is wonderful, with Jose Antonio ending up looking 20 years younger. He struggles to hold back the tears as he sees himself after the haircut and color and new set of clothes given to him at the salon. "This is incredible," he says, "How different, no one's going to recognize me!"

Now, two years later, Jose Antonio is living in a shared apartment and looking for a full-time gig, according to the Huffington Post.

Sean Spicer wore a green tie on TV. Here's why that's a bad idea.

0

On March 16, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer got into the St. Patrick's Day spirit early by wearing a green tie to his daily press conference/shoutathon. Unfortunately, he forgot that green screen technology is now accessible on every single computer and phone in the world now. So BuzzFeed's Jesse McLaren decided to have some fun with the footage. He posted his experiment on Twitter, where it's gone viral for obvious reasons.

Poor Spicey just can't win. It's enough to make any press secretary cry, "Faith and begorra!"

I'd rather leave my house during the apocalypse than during St. Patrick's Day.

Paul Ryan offends all of Ireland with his pitiful pint of Guinness.

Paul Ryan managed to offend all of Ireland when he appeared at the Washington, D.C. Friends of Ireland luncheon on Thursday - but not because of anything he said.

Irish journalist Naomi O'Leary shared this image from the event. As you can see, Ryan is holding a very sad-looking pint of Guinness.

I would be remiss not to also point out O'Leary's report that Mike Pence actually said, "Top of the morning," which warrants its own face palm. Let's all do it together.

One, two, three... face palm.

Great work, everyone. Now back to Paul Ryan's sad beer.

People on Twitter caught wind of O'Leary's photo, and the jokes started rolling in.

Others pointed out just how terrible Ryan's Guinness looked.

Naturally, people started to reminisce about happier times, when America was a nation led by politicians who knew the proper way to drink a Guinness.

Many Irish people were deeply offended, leaving us to wonder what this will mean for the future of Ireland-US relations.

Ireland, we sincerely apologize.

Meghan McCain blasts Chelsea Clinton over rumors she may run for office.

0

Meghan McCain, Fox News host and daughter of Senator John McCain, fired shots across the aisle at Chelsea Clinton, children's book author and daughter of politicians Bill and Hillary. And her comments are brutal. And hypocritical, but for reasons that have nothing to do with her father.

"What fresh hell am I living in where I am going to sit through Chelsea Clinton running for office?" said McCain, reaching a crescendo. "What do I have to do to make the Clintons stop running for office? We don't like you!"

Meghan McCain continued to bash Chelsea Clinton for mere rumors that she might run for office, leaving no question that she likes to judge Chelsea Clinton through the prism of Hillary Clinton.

"Legitimately, she has attempted to grow a personality on Twitter since the election, which could have gone to good use when her mother was running for president but I guess only in loss you're gonna get some attitude afterward. I never had that problem, personally."

Here's some of the "new" personality Chelsea Clinton's displayed since her mother's blindsiding loss to Donald Trump.

Meghan McCain's cohosts then made some typical Fox News comments, and McCain went in again on Chelsea Clinton's parents: "It does raise the question about new fresh blood in the Democratic Party, and if the Clintons are just gonna keep this hold on power and they can't let any other people..."

After her cohosts interrupted to do their Fox News thing, Meghan McCain commented again, seeming to anticipate a negative reaction.

"Obviously I can't sit here and be a hypocrite and say if your parents are famous politicians you can't have a career, that's fine. The media gives this grown woman with two children a pass every step of the way," said McCain, although it's entirely unclear what Clinton's two children have to do with any of this, and what McCain's show is if not "media."

"I've never seen her give a legitimate interview where I thought I gained anything new about her or her family. She's been given a free pass her entire career and her entire life," said McCain, ignoring the criticism Chelsea Clinton's received since she was a teenager.

"So if she does end up running for some office, one way or another, are they gonna treat her the same way, are they gonna ask her real questions? Like, what is your platform?"

A great, real question by Meghan McCain, who had just spent the last five minutes railing against Chelsea Clinton for being Hillary Clinton's daughter.

Trump read his favorite 'Irish proverb' for St. Patrick's Day. It's not actually an Irish proverb at all.

0
0

On March 16, St. Patrick's Day Eve, President Donald Trump delivered remarks alongside Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny at the Friends of Ireland luncheon in Washington, D.C.

With the gusto of a second-grader sounding out sentences for the first time, Trump read special proverb for the "Friends of Ireland." It turned out to be more appropriate for a Friends of Nigeria event.

“Always remember to forget the friends that proved untrue, but never forget to remember those that have stuck by you,” Trump recited. But Irish people on Twitter pointed out that the "Irish proverb" wasn't Irish at all.

Even better, the "Irish proverb" actually comes from a poem by Nigerian poet Albashir Adam Alhassan.

Not only is his favorite Irish proverb actually Nigerian, it's not even a proverb.

Twitter had a good time calling out the shite.

Who knew that Donald Trump is so passionate about Nigerian poetry?

Thank you for trusting me enough to never change your passwords.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to someone who finally has a reasonable explanation for being drunk at work on a Friday.
