United CEO's 'sorry not sorry' response to doctor dragging video infuriates critics even more.

By now you've probably seen the video of the man being literally dragged off an overbooked United flight on Sunday night. The man, who claimed to be a doctor who had patients to see in the morning, was chosen randomly to be taken off the plane despite having paid for his seat. (Four people had to leave the plane, two volunteered and the other two were chosen random.)

When the man refused leave the plane of his own accord, police were called and the man was dragged down the aisle while horrified onlookers protested how he was being treated.

This isn't great PR for United, who just a few weeks ago found themselves being heavily criticized for not allowing two girls in leggings to board one of their planes, citing a dress code. Many people found this to be a sexist move, since men on the same flight were wearing shorts and the airline apparently had no problem with that.

In an interview with CNBC on Monday, Gordon Bethune, the Chief Executive of United Continental Holdings (the former parent company of United Airlines) said, "Denied boarding is usually handled with a whole lot more maturity," apparently referring to the man's unwillingness to leave the plane.

Bethune continued, "[United] tries to do a professional job, but not everybody on the plane is professional," which is how he explained the "scene" on Sunday. "This immature reaction disturbs us all," Bethune said.

Soon after that interview, United CEO Oscar Munoz issued an apology—sort of. His official statement said:

This is an upsetting event to all of us here at United. I apologize for having to re-accommodate these customers. Our team is moving with a sense of urgency to work with the authorities and conduct our own detailed review of what happened.

Being dragged down an aisle by police for refusing to give up a seat you paid for, on a flight you needed to be on, is hardly "re-accommodating." This apology strikes as being the 'sorry not sorry' variety. Hopefully, the airline will come up with a better explanation for how this whole debacle happened because Twitter is not having United's response to all this.

This is why Selena Gomez and the cast of ‘13 Reasons Why’ got matching tattoos.

Over the weekend, Selena Gomez got matching tattoos with Alisha Boe and Tommy Dorfman, two cast members of the popular Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, of which Gomez is an executive producer.

Gomez documented the whole venture on her Instagram story, so I guess she's back on the 'gram after taking some time off for mental health.

Speaking of mental health, the tattoo they chose is a simple semicolon, which has become a symbol of surviving mental illness, started by a social media movement called Project Semicolon. The website explains:

Through the semicolon symbol many related to the struggle of depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide and their will to continue on.

We know mental health struggles hit close to home for Selena Gomez, who has spoken openly about battling with anxiety and panic attacks, as well as social media addiction. She spent some time in rehab last year to focus on her recovery, which she called "one of the hardest things I’ve done, but it was the best thing I’ve done."

After the trio got their tattoos, they happened to pass a billboard for the show and snapped this 'gram:

I know a lot of people who have some regrettable tattoos, myself included (let's just say it involves a 2008 campaign and a certain political slogan, and I wish I'd just gotten a poster instead). But I have a very strong feeling Selena and her buddies won't regret this one.

Cat mesmerized by optical illusion has extremely entertaining freakout.

Cats are so much like humans—lazy, selfish, passive-aggressive, hairy, beautiful. And apparently, they're just as fascinated by optical illusions as we are. This pretty little black fella was so bewildered by this spinning optical illusion that he went into attack mode. The result is the internet's newest favorite cat video.

He tore that paper apart like a live mouse. Everybody's a critic.

Here's the surprising reason you always have to fart on airplanes. (It's not just you.)

0
0

There are lots of reasons to feel uncomfortable on a plane (like people screaming about politics), but I think we can all agree that the increased need to fart is the worst.

That's right, I said it. We need to talk about it, guys. If you're someone who experiences flatulence on airplanes, I'm here to tell you that you're not alone. In fact, there's a science-backed reason as to why you might feel more gassy while you're up in the air. FART SCIENCE.

Physician and former president of the International Society of Travel Medicine Dr. David Shlim toldThe Huffington Post that the scientific name for this phenomenon is HAFE, which stands for High Altitude Flatus Expulsion. The term was first coined in the 1980s by researchers who observed mountain climbers experiencing flatulence at high altitudes. As it turns out, their research also applies to airline passengers.

Schlim explained that airplane cabins are typically pressurized to 6,000-8,000 feet, which is still a pretty significant change in altitude for anyone coming from sea level. Just as air can expand at higher altitudes, so too can the gas in your intestines. In fact, it can take up 30 percent more room than usual. This can make you feel more gassy or even bloated.

Well, I am sufficiently fascinated. Now that we know that HAFE is a thing, let's focus on what we can do about it. The Huffington Post suggests drinking a lot of water and avoiding salty or fatty foods. Dr. Marvin Cooper, a travel physician, recommends getting up and walking around the plane to "shake your bowels up a bit," or trying an over-the-counter anti-gas medication.

So the next time you feel bad about subjecting the guy next to you to your plane farts, don't worry. He's probably farting too.

Here’s to my siblings for showing my parents they didn’t mess up all of us.

Gwyneth Paltrow wants everyone to start 'earthing,' which is even dumber than it sounds.

In the past, Gwyneth Paltrow has recommended getting stung by bees, steaming your vagina, and sprinkling "moon dust" in your morning smoothie, but her newest depression "cure" might be the dumbest thing the actress has advocated for yet.

In her latest GOOP newsletter, Paltrow wrote about "earthing therapy" to cure insomnia, arthritis, and depression. What does earthing entail, you may ask? Walking around barefoot.

That's it.

Lazin' in the grass. Happy Mother's Day to all 💕

A post shared by Gwyneth Paltrow (@gwynethpaltrow) on

According to the post, earthing "rests on the intuitive assumption that connecting to the energy of the planet is healthy for our souls and bodies" and it "reduces and prevents inflammation from occurring in the body, which in turn prevents inflammation-related health disorders."

Pinch me 🏖☀️🇲🇽

A post shared by Gwyneth Paltrow (@gwynethpaltrow) on

But there are some rules to earthing, the biggest one being that you must walk around barefoot outside. Yuck.

Clint Ober, apparent earthing expert, explains why.

Walking barefoot in your home, where minimally conductive or nonconductive materials like concrete foundations and hardwood floors insulate us from the earth's electric potential, will not have the same effect.

Go off your meds! All of our mental and physical ailments can be cured simply by walking around outside barefoot. Thanks, Gwyneth!

How far along are you with your taxes?

Woman exposes trainer who fat-shamed her on Facebook, learns he has a history.

24-year-old Kayleigh Eliza Boase of Cornwall, UK, recently Snapchatted a classic mirror selfie to celebrate her love of comfy loungewear. She didn't think anything of it until she received a body-shaming message from her former personal trainer, Jowan Townsend-Trahair, later that day. "That belly," he wrote. After that, they had a conversation about her fitness regimen that so infuriated Boase, she felt compelled to expose this judgmental "idiot" on Facebook.

Idiots like this is what causes people to have eating disorders. Only an insecure bloke would try to belittle a woman. So screw you, I'm happy that's all that matters!🖕👊

Posted by Kayleigh Eliza Boase on Tuesday, April 4, 2017
Pretty normal selfie. Who would have a problem with that?
Oh wait, this guy does.

Commenters immediately came out by the hundreds to give Boase their support, and to rip this jerk apart.

Boase was overwhelmed.

Others who knew Townsend-Trahair started sharing their own experiences with him. It turns out this wasn't an isolated incident.

And it gets much worse from there. By this point, Boase's post was going viral. After it was covered by Cornwall Live, a local woman named Kell Johnson reached out to them to share abusive messages she received from Townsend-Trahair after she broke up with a friend of his. He wrote:

[Redacted] said you look like you've been hit by a car, reversed over, picked up threw off a cliff, buried, dug back up and then shot in the face point blank with a shot gun

[Redacted] said to avoid sleeping with you again he'd rather eat s**t five times a day for the rest of his life, peel off his foreskin with a cheesegrater, bite off every single finger and toe … kill his dog and then dig him up after burying him, and eat his b**lsacks. Then take out every single one of his teeth and give them to a homeless, inject himself with AIDS and then shoot himself in the face with an automatic rifle

Charming.

Townsend-Trahair, for his part, isn't trying to hide from the backlash. Asked to respond on Facebook, he wrote:

I love the attention. Crack-on brother … For the record I wasn't 'body-shaming' anybody. I have already apologised to Kayleigh. This is funny af (as f***) but for now I'm busy bro' so peace out.

He'll have to keep pretty busy to avoid the internet's Hate Train. It's headed straight for him at full speed.

Amy Schumer gets bikini revenge on hater who says ‘not everyone should be in a swimsuit.’

Amy Schumer is kicking ass with a way more successful career than most of us can ever imagine. She is also a woman with a body, making her automatic fodder for internet trolls with strong opinions about how that body should look. But Schumer isn't going to let the haters ruin her day at the beach, literally.

The comedian shared eight pictures in an Instagram Story on Saturday, all of them showing her in a bathing suit. And for a very specific reason.

Amy Schumer is wearing swimwear to go swimming!!!! SOS

She ended the slideshow with this message: "I feel great. No haters can f with my baseline."

Forrrreeee!!!!

A post shared by @amyschumer on

The Instagram story was a response to the 35-year-old comedian getting trolled and body shamed after she recently appeared on the cover of the May issue of InStyle magazine in her bathing suit.

A lot of people loved the photo and praised the magazine for putting a "real" woman on the cover:

But others wrote nasty, mean-spirited comments about her body. Including South Shore Swimwear designer Dana Duggan, who wrote this comment on InStyle's Instagram photo:

"Come on now!" she wrote. "You could not find anyone better for this cover? Not everyone should be in a swimsuit." And then she added a VOMIT EMOJI for emphasis, like a real life adult Regina George with too much time on her hands and too many opinions on what other women "should" and "should not" wear.

Commenters responded, many tearing Duggan to shreds for body shaming Amy.

Thankfully, Schumer is not letting the hate get to her head.

This is not Amy Schumer's first body shaming rodeo, and she has never let internet trolls stop her from wearing whatever she damn well pleases to the beach, making her an inspiration for us all.

As we near beach season, here's a friendly reminder: AN ACCEPTABLE "BIKINI BODY" IS ANY BODY WITH A BIKINI ON IT. PERIOD.

We can all take a hint from Amy, this summer and beyond, and never let the haters f with our baseline.

Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis answer the most-Googled questions about themselves.

Food blogger snaps pic of secret Burger King chicken chart.

Helen Rosner, a food writer from New York, recently posted a photo on Twitter of what appears to be some training material for Burger King employees: a chart showing chicken filets, from raw to burnt and all the colors in between.

This chart apparently exists to help Burger King employees determine whether a chicken filet is alright to serve to customers. Like, for example, burnt completely black? Do not serve. Pale and totally raw? Also do not serve. It's not rocket science—it's chicken science!

Of course, Twitter had a field day with the chart, for which "Okay" was the best possible option. Here are some of the funniest responses:

So now you yourself have the Burger King's secret technique for deciding which chicken filets are fit to eat and which cannot go out to customers. The power is yours! Go forth and use it wisely.

Happy National Sibling Day to the only person in therapy for the exact same reasons as me.

Will China's number one Trump impersonator make him as mad as Alec Baldwin does?

0
0

Alec Baldwin's Saturday Night Live portrayal of President Donald Trump is probably the most famous, but that doesn't mean there aren't other Trump impersonators out there. In fact, they're all over the globe. Take for example Li Liangwei, the number one Trump impersonator in China.

Admittedly, Li Liangwei and Donald Trump look nothing alike, but that's nothing a little makeup and hair dye can't fix... right? Time reports that Li teamed up with entertainment agent Zhou Danrong (who also reps two Barack Obama impersonators and a Kim Jong Un), who helped him transform into the almost-Trump you see today.

According to Time, Li has become China's go-to Trump impersonator and receives several hundred dollars per appearance as Donald Trump.

"People always say I resemble Trump not just in appearance, but far more important, in temperament and spirit," he said. "The temperament and character quality of a great man are not built in a day."

Let's hope Li lives far away enough to be spared a Trump tweet-storm.

How you celebrate National Sibling Day.

Busy Phillips freaks out, claims she was ‘almost murdered’ by a stranger in an Uber.

You guys, the "craziest thing" happened to Busy Philipps early Sunday morning when she was trying to get home in an Uber. You'll never believe it! Unless you've ever taken a ride-share service, in which case you'll probably believe it. Because things get weird when you share a ride with strangers.

The Dawson's Creek actress shared an Instagram photo taken "seconds before I was almost murdered by a random dude in an Uber."

Seconds before I was almost murdered by a random dude in an Uber... (You can watch my story for more info..)

A post shared by Busy Philipps (@busyphilipps) on

She also detailed her response to the incident in an epic 50-video Instagram story.

Philipps, 37, and her husband, Marc Silverstein, were leaving a restaurant early in the morning on Sunday so they ordered a single Uber—not an Uber pool/ride-share, she explained in the story. When a driver in an SUV pulled up, they got inside, but she said she immediately felt something was off. Here's what happened next, she explained:

I say [to Marc], 'What's going on, are we about to get murdered?' A man that we didn't know existed in the back seat pops up...and he was like, 'I promise that's not going to happen.' It was very creepy the way he chose to say it, even though he wasn't going to murder us, he made it seem like he might.

After that, Phillips said she started screaming: "I'm not going to be killed today! I will not fucking be killed today!...No! You cannot kill us! Fuck no!"

She said they both then jumped out of the car, but decided not to contact police.

"People think that I should've called the police maybe, but I feel like...we're in L.A., guys. It would have taken them easily an hour to get there," said Philipps. "Also, what are my charges? 'There was a creepy guy?' I don't think that's illegal."

Seconds after she was not murdered by a random dude in an Uber.

Her husband described the incident as the "weirdest thing" that's ever happened to him. And Philipps said she's "done with Uber. Never again. Never again!" She added: "that was legitimately the scariest, weirdest, worst thing that's ever happened in a car situation for me."

I'm sorry this happened to them. But also, anyone who takes ride-shares on the reg knows that creepy strangers are basically part of the package. Welcome to being a plebeian for a few seconds, Busy Philipps. No, it's not fun.

Sean Penn worked with ‘toxic narcissist’ Steve Bannon in the ’90s. He is not a fan.

If you think you have hate in your heart for the con-artist formerly known as President Bannon, get in line behind Sean Penn. Back in 1991, the actor wrote and directed his first film, The Indian Runner, and Steve Bannon, who had just left Goldman Sachs, was the executive producer.

Two-and-a-half decades later, Penn has spoken to Death & Taxes about his former co-worker and current chief strategist to the president. And he seems to hate the former Breitbart exec about as much as is humanly possible without actually combusting.

Said Penn:

Bannon was then, as he is now, simply another bitter Hollywood wannabe who went rogue by way of toxic narcissistic iconoclasm. But, deep in his heart, he’s just a conniving hateful bloated punk who despises mankind. And then there are also the bad things about him…

I never thought I'd want a Sean Penn quote tattooed on my body until today, or even care what Sean Penn has to say about much of anything. But this is poetry, and I am moved.

To add insult to injury, Penn's statement comes on the heels of Steve Bannon having a rather rough week. He was fired from President Donald Trump's National Security Council last week, much to the delight of Twitter. And now he is reportedly beefing with Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

In a dark time, let's find a little solace in the fact that there is a distinct chance Steve Bannon is crying into an acid-filled jacuzzi at this very moment.

This 14-year-old Nicki Minaj impersonator gives the rapper a run for her money.

0
0

Nicki Minaj is a 34-year-old Trinidadian-born rapper. Awra Briguela is a 14-year-old boy from the Phillippines. They are not the same person. And yet, when Briguela impersonates Minaj on stage, clad in a sparkly get-up and the rapper's signature pink wink, it's virtually impossible to distinguish him from the real deal. Seriously.

Briguela recently performed "Super Bass" in the finale of popular Filipino game show Your Face Sounds Familiar: Kids, in which kids impersonate performers (you may remember this mini-Taylor Swift who blew everyone's minds earlier this year).

A Nicki Minaj impersonation might be harder to pull off. She oozes attitude and raps more quickly than most people can talk, or even think. But it turns out, she's met her match in Awra Briguela.

Just watch:

Even if you don't understand what the judges are saying, it's clear that this impersonation blew them all away. I think I heard the word "inspiration" a few times, and Awra looks psyched.

Here's what he looks like when he's not impersonating Nicki:

You'd smile too if you were this talented at 14.

Turns out, he won the competition—no big surprise there—winning a million pesos (about $20,000) and a trip to Jeju, South Korea, Mashable reports.

He's gonna be super famous. Boom-ba-doom-boom-boom-ba-doom-boom.

Katy Perry has the perfect, most hilarious response to those Ryan Phillippe dating rumors.

0

Earlier this week, rumors were swirling about a possible romance between singer Katy Perry and actor Ryan Phillippe in the wake of Perry's breakup with Orlando Bloom. However, Phillippe quickly squashed our hopes and dreams of "Kyan Perrippe" when he tweeted this on Sunday:

Bummer. At least we can all seek solace in Katy Perry's hilarious response.

But wait...Phillippe responded.

Hold on, are these two flirting over a hypothetical hostage situation? AW!

Who knows, this could be the start of "Ryaty Phillery" after all.

Jimmy Kimmel’s hilariously honest United commercial is absolutely savage.

0
0

After Sunday night's brutal mistreatment of a United Airlines passenger on an overbooked flight, which led to him being bloodied and pulled off the airplane, Jimmy Kimmel made a hilarious fake commercial for United.

First, Kimmel talked for a few minutes about the debacle and the company's faux-apology, comparing United's use of the word "re-accommodate" in relation to their treatment of the passenger (a doctor who claimed he needed to be at the hospital in the morning) to the U.S.'s re-accommodation of notorious Mexican drug lord El Chapo.

Jimmy Kimmel also pointed out that this incident would never happen in any other industry. Imagine ordering dinner at a restaurant but then being "re-accommodated" on your ass out of the establishment when somebody else showed up wanting your table.

But as Kimmel explains, airlines can frequently get away with treating their customers poorly, because people generally choose the cheapest airline when they're flying. So it doesn't matter if the airline has a bad reputation; if someone needs to go somewhere, the tendency is to go with whatever costs the least.

Maybe this snafu, along with the United's recent refusal to allow two girls in leggings to board one of their flight's, claiming they didn't meet the dress code, will persuade travelers to avoid United until they get it together.
