Bloomingdale's apologized after releasing a wildly inappropriate Christmas advertisement.

Bloomingdale's has apologized after publishing a super uncomfortable advertisement suggesting that you celebrate Christmas by acting like a date rapist. The ad was published in their holiday catalog and features a somewhat creepy-looking dude next to a laughing woman with the message, "Spike your best friend’s eggnog when they’re not looking." People were quick to condemn it on social media:

https://twitter.com/nycjim/status/664306711587500032https://twitter.com/runolgarun/status/664222552693182464https://twitter.com/krisalderson/status/663957144421691392

Bloomingdale's gave a statement about the ad to Tech Insider, in which the company apologized:

In reflection of recent feedback, the copy we used in our recent catalog was inappropriate and in poor taste. Bloomingdales' [sic] sincerely apologizes for this error in judgment.

Go with something simple next time, like "Happy Holidays," or "'Tis the season," or "Give people presents, not drugs against their will."

Healthy alternative.

Grieving young 'Star Wars' fan gets a heartwarming letter from Chewbacca himself.

Peter Mayhew, the actor who plays Chewbacca in Star Wars, sent a heart-warming condolence letter to a young fan after his seven-year-old friend passed away. Liam, the recipient of the letter, had planned to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens with his friend Sam. Sam recently passed away, and his father posted the letter on Imgur and Reddit.

Liam,

I am sorry to hear that you won’t be able to see the new Star Wars movie with your friend Sam. I know that sometimes things happen and we can’t figure out why and all we feel is sadness. It’s important to remember the fun you had with Sam. Best friends are never really gone, they live on forever in our hearts and memories. I know that you are going to love Star Wars: The Force Awakens and I bet you make some new friends that also love Star Wars. I wish you the very best, and May The Force Be With You!

Cheers, Peter ‘Chewbacca’ Mayhew

Sam's sister elaborated on the story and how much it truly meant to her family:

About three weeks ago, my brother passed away in a tragic accident. I'm going to spare the details, since it's all still so fresh and heavy in our hearts.

Sam was seven, and while he may have only been here for a short time in retrospect, he lived more than most adults I know. And boy, did he love Star Wars. The force was definitely strong with this one. One of his very good friends, Liam, promised to go see the new Star Wars movie with Sam on Christmas... And word of Sam's passing got back to Peter Mayhew. This was the response.

It's amazing to see the support we have been given through this time. I know Sam would have loved to know that Chewy knows who he is.

The force is certainly strong with Sam. Sometimes Wookies pull people's arms out of their sockets when they lose games. Other times, they write perfect letters and warm everyone's hearts. May the force be with Liam, Sam and his family.

This hidden camera social experiment about groping on the subway got heated real quick.

A social experiment about groping in the subway went from 0 to 100 very quickly. It was produced by "Trollstation," a U.K.-based YouTube channel that specializes in "bizarre and often surreal pranks" that are "intentionally provocative & controversial." The concept is pretty simple: a male actor gropes a female actor on the train, and the public's reaction is secretly recorded. Bystanders don't do anything for the first minute or so, but then two guys realize what's going on and spring into action, grabbing the male actor and blocking him from the woman. Then the actors break and let everyone know it's a prank before things go too far.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egeea61eafs

They were trying to prove a point about how society doesn't do anything about sexual assault on the subway, but in this case, society looked pretty good. Do it again, and make us look horrible!

Watching these famous pals come together and slap some skin is enough to make you want to burst out of your cubicle and high five your annoying coworkers. Eh, maybe not… but you'll still love it.

Hair coloring's coolest new technique is also its most inconvenient-looking.

Just when you thought all the ways to get subtle highlights with a bottle of bleach and a brush had been discovered, enterprising colorists come up with one more. Introducing "fluid hair painting":

https://instagram.com/p/98rdbqm-KV/?tagged=fluidhairpainting

The hair is separated in sections, and then hand-painted on a large flat surface. It's kind of like Balayage, except you need way more equipment and it makes a better Instagram photo:

https://instagram.com/p/96CB_KvhJr/?tagged=fluidhairpainting

The "pioneer" of this technique, KL Christoffsen, says he created it because the position of the hair creates elevation that allows him to see how the color is being applied through the layers, as opposed to when you're sitting up and your hair is hanging flat like a curtain. It's supposed to give way more control to the stylist and create more nuanced color dimension:

Jennifer Lawrence, quirky queen of falling down, is up to her clumsy old tricks.

Do you want to see a famous person fall down, you perverse sicko? Then you're in luck. Because Jennifer Lawrence, Hollywood's quirky queen of stumbles, has completed her trilogy of falling in public.

Lawrence has famously fallen twice before. The first was the time in 2013 when she tripped on the way to the Oscars stage to accept her award. (Remember how fast Bradley Cooper ran to help her? Those two.) Then at the 2014 Oscars she also fell over, this time on the red carpet.

Lawrence, last night, during a moment of successful balance.

Last night, at the Madrid premiere of The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 2, Lawrence wiped out yet again. With three incidents, falling down is officially Lawrence's thing. It's what differentiates her from her peers (in addition to talent, an Oscar, and being the most famous actor). Hopefully she's willing to commit to face-planting for the rest of her career.

You might be starting to worry that J-Law has vertigo or something, but thankfully her frequent falls are probably due to the painful, unwearable shoes and dresses that famous women are expected to somehow move around in.

A cab company started a hashtag for heartwarming taxi stories, and it totally backfired.

Feeling threatened by the popularity of Uber, the Victorian Taxi Association in Melbourne, Australia decided to take to Twitter to try and win people back. They started a new account, @YourTaxis, and the hashtag #YourTaxis to get people sharing their heartwarming tales about commuting by cab, hoping that reminiscing about the good times would make people want to leave the younger, sexier Uber. As you might expect, it turned into an airing of grievances, since the Victorian Taxi Association has been less than awesome.

Some of the stories are funny:

And others are straight-up terrifying:

Aziz Ansari jokes about lack of diversity on CBS during interview with Stephen Colbert.

Aziz Ansari appeared on The Late Show this week and traded a few jokes with Stephen Colbert about the lack of diversity on TV. They were enjoying that both hail from South Carolina when Aziz pointed out that Colbert is the first late night host from that state, and he pointed out something else very important:

Stephen's the first late night host from South Carolina. And the bajillionth white guy.

Truth! Stephen acknowledged that and the fact that this is obviously an issue that's highly important to Aziz. The endless parade of white men in late night has been a point of controversy in entertainment, especially as shows have recently been passed to new hosts. They then joked that Aziz's conversation with Stephen technically made this an episode of TV that's 50% non-white.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ao3_3yBv13M

The bright side, of course, is that the mistake Aziz points out on Stephen's note card could get a white guy fired. You can always count on Colbert to circle back on a joke and stick the landing.

This lesbian couple was asked to move seats on an airplane to make room for a straight couple.

A straight couple was given preferential treatment over a lesbian couple on a recent flight, and the lesbian couple took to Facebook to share their experience. Kristina Antoniades, a family lawyer, was traveling business class from Brisbane to Melbourne with her partner Merrin and their daughter Lily. She checked in online a day early to ensure they were all seated together. Right before they boarded, the airline, Qantas Airways Limited, called Merrin to the desk to inform her that her seat had been moved so that a married couple could sit together. Kristina argued with them that the straight couple should not have priority. The airline then gave back Merrin's original boarding pass.

Kristina and Merrin.

It didn't end there, though. After the plane took off, the flight manager kept harassing them. She repeatedly asked Kristina why she wouldn't move and why she "had taken it upon [herself]" to separate a married couple. She tried to explain why her and her family should be treated equally, but the manager just walked away without apologizing.

What a homophobic jetliner.

Kristina posted about the story on Facebook:

After people on the Internet rallied behind her, Qantas apologized and offered the couple frequent flyer points. They released the following statement:

We have been in contact with the passengers to apologise for the situation, where we were faced with two separate groups of customers asking to switch seats to sit together, including an elderly couple [...] On board, a misunderstanding occurred about the seating arrangement. This was an unfortunate misunderstanding and we've since apologised to the customer.

It's especially weird that this happened on a Qantas flight, as their CEO is openly gay and the company supports a lot of LGBTQA+ initiatives. This just goes to show that even when you're in business class, you're still not safe from bigotry.

Two sisters are on a road trip to find the cure for one's illness, and they're saving lives along the way.

Imgur user bcisaidiwould recently shared the story of two sisters, Sam and Alex Kimura, who are traveling across the country. They're looking for a bone marrow match for Sam, who has severe aplastic anemia—a potentially life threatening blood disorder. The best chance of a cure is a bone marrow transplant, but no one in her family matches, nor does anyone currently on the National Bone Marrow Registry.

Not sure who is who...

The younger you are when you get your transplant, the better your chance of survival. Sam's been waiting for years, and apparently she and Alex got fed up with it and took to the road. They sold their cars and bought a van (presumably in honor of the Scooby Gang):

Jeepers!

They've been traveling since January and have vowed to explore every state. They also have a map that looks like it should be in a movie about them:

Too. Cute.

They mostly stop at colleges. Younger people who donate are more likely to be successful matches for people. All it takes to get tested is swabbing the inside of your mouth with a cotton q-tip. They still get a lot of NOs from people who don't have the time or harbor misconceptions about what signing up to be a donor would mean.

Lots of dudes want to help them out for some reason?

It's not a dream road trip. If Alex gets sick she has to wear a mask or she could make Sam really sick. And Sam has to take 20 pills a day for her condition.

Road trip nightmare.

They haven't found someone who could be a match for Sam, but they've signed up 13,873 people for the donor registry. Out of that,115 were actually matches for people who needed a live-saving bone marrow transplant. Like this guy, Connor, who is donating:

Go, Connor, go!

The girls are still on the road. In honor of their commitment they got a matching tattoo that represents a human Leukocyte Antigen sequence, or the proteins that would identify the DNA match for Sam.

A tattoo with actual meaning. Scientifically.

Anybody could be the person who saves Sam's life. Even you!

Aziz Ansari posted the sweetest tribute to his dad/costar.

Aziz Ansari is a multi-talented comedian, actor, and writer. Known for his swag, he is also a total sweetheart, and he wrote a touching post in tribute to his parents. Shoukath and Fatima Ansari, Aziz's real parents, also played Aziz's parents on Master of None. They nailed the part, stealing scenes like they've been doing comedy for years, or at least have taken Improv 101.

Warning: The post will make you feel very moved and guilt you into calling your own parents as well.

Posted by Aziz Ansari on Wednesday, November 11, 2015

He writes:

My dad took off most of his vacation time for the year to act in Master of None. So I'm really relieved this all worked out. Tonight after we did Colbert together he said: "This is all fun and I liked acting in the show, but I really just did it so I could spend more time with you." I almost instantly collapsed into tears at the thought of how much this person cares about me and took care of me and gave me everything to give me the amazing life I have. I felt like a total piece of garbage for all the times I haven't visited my parents and told them I wanted to stay in New York cause I'd get bored in SC. I'm an incredibly lucky person and many of you are as well. Not to beat a dead horse here and sorry if this is cheesy or too sentimental but if your parents are good to you too, just go do something nice for them. I bet they care and love you more than you realize.

I’ve been overwhelmed by the response to the Parents episode of our show. What’s strange is doing that episode and working with my parents has increased the quality of my relationship to my parents IN MY REAL LIFE. In reality, I haven’t always had the best, most open relationship with my parents because we are weirdly closed off emotionally sometimes. But we are getting better. And if you have something like that with your family - I urge you to work at it and get better because these are special people in your life and I get terrified when my dad tells me about friends of his, people close to his age, that are having serious health issues, etc. Enjoy and love these people while you can.

Anyway, this show and my experiences with my parents while working on it have been very important in many ways and I thank for you the part you all have played in it.

Kylie Jenner has a custom-built 'selfie mirror' in case you wanted to resent her more.

In an exclusive new video posted to her website, Kylie Jenner gave fans a tour of her "glam room," the fully-mirrored nexus in which she applies her thousands of dollars of free makeup and boob cream, selects her wigs, and in general glams herself up for the world to enjoy. One feature especially caught the Internet's attention: a lighted vanity mirror containing a mount for her iPhone. The item is designed for her to take perfect Instagram selfies, the kind that have made her (more) famous.

The latest in narcissism technology.

In the video, Kylie admits that the design of the room was copied from Khloe's glam room (they all have them!), although she doesn't say whether Khloe or any of the other Kardashians have mirrors like hers. Considering how much they all love selfies, however, it wouldn't be surprising. Also they're super rich.

As you can see, it's very sophisticated.

Are selfie mirrors the craze of the future? Now that the video is up, they're probably the craze of today. That's how powerful she is.

Mary-Louise Parker finally dished on Billy Crudup leaving her for Claire Danes while she was pregnant.

This story about other people's personal lives is 12 years old, yet it wasn't until this fall that the public started finally getting details that are absolutely none of anyone's business. As you may have heard about in 2003, or you may have forgotten, or you may have never known, or perhaps still find distasteful to discuss: actors Billy Crudup and Mary-Louise Parker dated for seven years, until Crudup left a very pregnant MLP for his young costar, Claire Danes.

MLP and MAN

Recently, Danes opened up to Howard Stern about what "a scary thing" it was when that happened and the public turned against her. And now MLP has addressed how she felt during that time in her new memoir, Dear Mr. You, which consists of a series of letters to various characters. As Bobby Finger of Jezebel points out, the "Dear Mr. Cabdriver" letter refers to her life post-breakup, pre-baby. Parker recounts screaming and cursing at a cabdriver who got lost until he kicks her out of the cab and says, "I don't want you anymore." Here's the excerpt (via Jezebel):

No one does

My voice was shot and I barely got out

Look at me

You turned at looked, I think for the first time...

My life is worse than yours in this moment.

I wailed

I am alone. Look, see? I am pregnant and alone. It hurts to even breathe.

Your hand slowly went to your mouth

I’m trying to get through it but I’m by myself every night and every morning and no one, nothing helps. I’m sorry I yelled. I can’t get my shoes on anymore. Please, I know I am awful, it’s been made clear but look at me please

Look at me

She also reflects:

I don’t know what you thought, if you had a daughter or a wife or if my little drama was a hangnail compared to your life. What I wish I could tell you is that I know it may have been. I don’t know what happened to you that morning, or that year, or when you were six. I didn’t know your tragedy or hardship and it was grossly unfair of me to compare my life to yours. I am aware of my good fortune. What I don’t have to struggle for that makes my life easier than most. I have thought of you and know you wouldn’t remember me but I am sorry.

Wow. Devastating. And what is this sensation? Is this what it feels like to be mad at Billy Crudup?

It's only taken 13 years, but fans now have an update on what is going on with the Portokalos family. The trailer for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is finally here. Nia Vardalos and John Corbett are back as Toula and Ian Miller, respectively. John Corbett will always be Aidan from Sex and the City to many, but he needs the work so suspend your disbelief for a second. In this sequel, Toula is dealing with her daughter Paris, played by Elena Kampouris. And guess what? She thinks being Greek sucks! Just like her mom. Anyway, watching this will make you feel your own body decaying in real time.
