On Saturday night, Rob Lowe was the honoree of the annual Comedy Central roast, but he got off easy because the real target ended up being demon/troll hybrid Ann Coulter.
But wait, why was political commentator Ann Coulter even there? Promoting her immediately irrelevant book, In Trump We Trust, of course.
And as Rob Lowe told USA Today, "I think the best daises are the daises that have people where you’re like what the f**k? You need every flavor to make these things go right and cut them all together for a show."
The roast participants included Coulter, English comedian Jimmy Carr, American comedian Nikki Glaser, SNL's Pete Davidson, The Karate Kid's Ralph Macchio, Peyton Manning, singer Jewel, comedian and former Daily Show correspondent Rob Riggle, Jeff Ross (who probably lives on stage at the Friars Club of New York where the roasts are held), and Roast Master David Spade.
Here are some of the highlights, as far as Coulter-jokes go:
Spade got a bunch in, including: "She seems stiff and conservative, but Ann gets wild in the sheets. Just ask the Klan," and "It looks like she's having a good time. I haven't seen her laugh this hard since Trayvon Martin got shot."
Jewel said: "As a feminist I can’t support everything that’s been said tonight, but as someone who hates Ann Coulter, I’m delighted."
Glaser joked: "Ann Coulter has written 11 books, 12 if you count Mein Kampf. Ann, you're awful. The only person you will ever make happy is the Mexican who digs your grave."
Davidson quipped: "Ann Coulter is here. If you are here, Ann, who is scaring the crows away from our crops?"
But Carr took it furthest, saying, "Ann is one of the most repugnant, hateful, hatchet-face bitches alive. It's not too late to change, Ann. You could kill yourself!"
Coulter, for her part, took it all in stride, saying: "There is nothing you can tell me to discourage me. My whole career has been an Ann Coulter roast."
Touché.
The entirety of the roast will air on Labor Day on Comedy Central.
