The makeup maven (and youngest) of the Kardashian/Jenner family, Kylie Jenner, posted a series of Snapchats on October 26 warning consumers about copycat companies that are trying to pass their own crappy cosmetics off as her own brand, Kylie Kosmetics Cosmetics. The products are the same price as hers, so it's not like the unsuspecting customers are getting a discount, but what they are getting are some potentially dangerous ingredients, including, possibly, glue. True, long wear is important in lipstick, but maybe not forever long.
In the Snapchats (edited together into one longer video above), Jenner shows how the packaging of the products looks identical to hers, but says that she doesn't sell her products to any outlets or stores, so unless you are shopping at her website, there's no way to be sure what you're getting are her products.
Jenner explains,
I feel responsible to give you guys warning because there are people out there trying to steal your money, and I just want you guys to have the best. The ingredients that they’re using in these fake products are really, really dangerous, which is my biggest concern. It’s fake and dangerous, and it’s the same price, so I don’t even see the point.
[The website] looks exactly like mine, but it’s not. I want to be really, really clear that the only place to get is KylieCosmetics.com, and anywhere else is fake. Make sure you guys check the URL.
Jenner also says in the video, "You guys, check my Twitter, I just reposted a video of this girl who got a fake Kylie Lip Kit and her lips are literally stuck together like glue."
Here are a few other examples of the fakes people have gotten from places like Amazon and eBay.
Here's one that apparently contains gasoline. Um.
Knock-off makeup and beauty product brands are common, so it's important to check the ingredients on the packaging, one of the few ways you can tell real from fake. Because the last thing you want in your long-wear lipstick is glue. Might as well just apply nail polish to your lips and call it a day.
