Bill Nye Surprised AOC at her SXSW panel in the best way possible.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is truly the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to making the internet pop off. She's constantly spinning gold via her tweets, Instagram posts, and public appearances, and she doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. What did we do to deserve her?!

In typical AOC fashion, she wowed audiences and went viral this weekend during her panel at South by Southwest (SXSW). The heavily attended event was called, "Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the New Left,” and the packed audience hung on to Ocasio-Cortez's every word. But perhaps the most memorable moment was when Bill Nye (the science guy!) made a surprise appearance. When the moderator turned to the audience for questions, Bill Nye approached the mic to ask the freshman House Rep his own. He said:

“I’m a white guy. I think the problem on both sides is fear. People of my ancestry are afraid to pay for everything as immigrants come into this country. People who work at the diner in Alabama are afraid to ask for what is reasonable.

So do you have a plan to work with people in Congress that are afraid? That’s what’s going on with many conservatives especially when it comes to climate change. People are afraid of what happens when we try to make these big changes.”

Bill Nye addressing AOC as if he is any other attendee was extremely refreshing and sincere. AOC agreed, as she gave him a standing ovation of her own after he asked his question. She then responded to him by saying:

“One of the keys to dismantling fear is dismantling a zero-sum mentality...It means the rejection outright of the logic that says someone else’s gain necessitates my loss and that my gain MUST necessitate someone’s loss. We can give without a take. We’re viewing progress as a loss instead of as an investment. When we choose to invest in our system, we are choosing to create wealth. When we all invest in them, then the wealth is for all of us too.”

You can watch the full video here:

And just when we thought we had reached peak content, the two had perhaps the most amazing Twitter exchange ever.

Bill Nye the Science Guy and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez make the cutest friendship duo, and I had no idea that I was craving it so much until now. Can we get these two a TV show, please? Ten out of ten would watch.

Chrissy Teigen perfectly shut down a troll who demanded 'bikini pics only.'

If you're a celebrity mom on the internet there is truly no way to win. If you consistently post sexy pictures of yourself people will claim you're shallow, full of yourself, or lack intellect. But if you post photos of your kids people will judge your parenting decisions, give you unsolicited advice, and sometimes even flippantly suggest your stay mum about your own offspring.

Chrissy Teigen is already deeply familiar with the catch-22 of being a famous mom online, and she largely ignores the trolls and does what she wants to do. However, there are times when a troll is just begging to get a Teigen response, and in those scenarios, she is quick to deliver.

The most recent example of this involved a troll who demanded Teigen stop posting about her children, and start posting bikini pics again. The comment came in response to Teigen's recent videos of Luna celebrating her first "big girl bed."

The bust of the college cheating crime ring has a perfect origin story.

$

The college cheating scandal has filled the place in our hearts that has been left empty with the lack of a third Fyre Festival documentary.

The tale of rich people finally facing crimes has the perfect origin story: a rich person trying to face less consequences for his crimes.

The Wall Street Journalreports that the authorities first heard about this massive fraud operation from Morrie Tobin, a Los Angeles financier who was implicated in a different white-collar crime, and offered the tip about College Cheatgate in a plea for mercy.

The tipster.

Tobin was cornered by the feds for his alleged involvement in a pump and dump scheme, which is that thing when finance guys submit false reports to artificially inflate the value of a stock and then selling it off to make bank.

Sounds fun.

To try and get off easy for that crime, Tobin tipped the FBI off on the other one: the massive fraud operation that facilities rich kids paying bribes to get their kids into elite schools by pretending to be athletes (the"Aunt Becky") and/or cheat on the SAT (the "Huffman-Macy.")

Tobin told the feds that Rudy Meredith, the recently indicted ex-Yale soccer coach, solicited a $450,000 bribe in exchange for getting Tobin's daughter into Yale as an "athletic recruit."

Nothing but respect for MY athletic recruit fraud scandal.

He led the feds to William "Rick" Singer, the mastermind behind the whole operation, and it kicked off a ten-month investigation that ensnared such figures as Felicity Huffman and Aunt Becky.

Tobin was not charged in Operation Varsity Blues, but is awaiting sentencing after taking a plea deal in his pump and dump case.

After Tobin lead the feds the head of Aunt Becky, the judge is sure to....have mercy.

Jimmy Fallon asked people to share their most awkward texts and boy, oh boy, did they deliver.

Humans are awkward enough on our own without adding texting to the equation. You used to have to make plans and show up somewhere to put your foot in your own mouth. But now it's possible to easily make sh*t weird with basically anyone you know (and even people you don't know) from the comfort of your own home.

Exhibit A: I once drunkenly texted a friend I had a crush on "what's up?" at 2 am and when he didn't respond, I texted every single one of our mutual friends, "what's up?" thinking that would help cover my tracks. It didn't.

But at least I'm not the only person to have my life occasionally ruined by the speed and ease of digital technology. Jimmy Fallon's latest challenge involved asking people to share screenshots of their most awkward text exchanges with the hashtag #MyAwkwardTexts for a chance to be featured on his show.

As you can imagine, people delivered. Here are 22 dazzlingly awkward texts that will make you feel better about your own mistakes, or at least know you're in good, excruciatingly awkward, company:

Woman stumbles upon 'world's worst straight dude Tinder bio' and it's a doozy.

$

If you're a human with a pulse, you're no doubt familiar with the pitfalls of Tinder and similar dating apps. Despite your attempts to use the service in good faith, there will always be other fish in the dating sea that spoil the experience - or at least memorably mar it. The nightmare parade begins as you swipe through and learn how other people see themselves - or at least how they want others to see them. The short list of 'masculine' activities men claim to engage in - game day with my bros, Bloody Mary brunch with my bros, camping and pissing on trees with my bros - to woo the fairer sex become boring quickly. Are you allergic to culture? Would it kill you to finish a book?!

Even worse, however, are the men whose bios contain offensively specific criteria for women. Twitter user @TheDreamGhoul, who's worth following in her own right, unveiled what might be the 'worst straight dude tinder bio' ever this week. Let's just say I'm not interested in hearing about how 'annoying' your boyfriend is, Linda, when the waters are infested with sharks like these:

...was that not WILD? I'm not even short enough for this jamoke, and I'm short enough that I dated a 5'5" guy for seven months. He was lovely. If you're reading this: Hi Jere!

Anyway, this particular bio pierced the jaded, cynical shell of daters everywhere, who delivered some REACTIONS, honey. This man needs a religious woman who's also a 'freak in bed'! Gotta love that Madonna/Whore complex at work.

The verdict is in: this guy deserves to be forever alone.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez summed up today's 'moderates' with a single word.

$

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez describing centrism as "meh" is going to enrage centrists if they're capable of feeling other than "meh."

The young Democratic congresswoman, who is also a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, was asked at self-proclaimed "moderate" politicians at the SXSW festival in Texas, and she coined a fitting new phrase.

With Trumpism turning the Republican party into somewhat of a personality cult, various politicians on both sides of the aisle claim the mantle of sanity by declaring themselves to be "centrist" and/or "moderate."

Ocasio-Cortez, on the other hand, believes that centrism isn't sanity, it's a cop out.

She told the crowd in Austin, Texas:

"We’ve become so cynical, that we view ‘meh,’ or ‘eh’ — we view cynicism as an intellectually superior attitude, and we view ambition as youthful naiveté when… the greatest things we have ever accomplished as a society have been ambitious acts of vision," she said.

"And the ‘meh’ is worshipped now. For what? Like, for what?"

Centrism in a single GIF.

The followers of "meh" were actually activated for once, and it kicked off an interesting debate.

Where's that energy when it comes to "bold acts of vision"?

Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo hilariously trolled each other. Then Jeremy Renner got involved.

Just look at that headline. Of course, I'm bragging somewhat because I wrote it - but just look at it. Really take it in. Have you ever gazed upon a greater trifecta of hot, funny Hollywood men? There IS this one involving Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Ryan Reynolds...okay, that one's also incredible. That one might win.

Regardless! I interrupt your late-afternoon work procrastination/monitor staring to bring delightful news regarding actors Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeremy Renner. I'm partial to Ruffalo as he's kind of the Thinking Woman's Hottie - plus, I love his performances in The Brothers Bloom, Spotlight, and The Kids Are All Right. But each is magnificent in his own, unique way.

It all started with Mark promoting a contest on Twitter that gives people a chance to attend the Avengers: Endgame premiere while supporting the nonprofit Stella Adler Academy of Acting & Theatre. Pretty cool, right?

Then Chris piped up.

TWIST: it was Jeremy all along!

Fans freaked out, obvi.

This trio couldn't stop f*cking with each other, not even in the name of charity...which is a clever way to publicize the contest and, by extension, the charity. Smart boys! I knew there was something I liked about them, especially in combination.

The hubbub even generated a conspiracy theory and it's a compelling one, tbh.

Emily Ratjakowski shuts down trolls accusing her of 'body-shaming' friend with bikini pic.

Y'all know Emily Ratjakowski?

She's a model and actor who first broke out as one of the half-naked dancers in the 'Blurred Lines' music video.

People swarmed the comments to chastise Emily for posting a photo in which she and a friend lie side-by-side on the beach. They compared Emily's body to her friend's - gross - and questioned why she even posted it.

Emily addressed the hatred in the comments and in her Stories.

My uninspired takeaway from all this is: should I buy an Inamorata suit? They're wicked cute.

This modern 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' trailer has people begging Netflix to make the show.

$

If you grew up in the 90's, your best memories of Will Smith don't involve the wild west, aliens, or gettin' jiggy with anything. They're all about Will's star-making turn as a fictionalized version of himself on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Will's character comes from a working class West Philadelphia background, but is sent to live with his wealthy aunt and uncle after getting into trouble locally. He relocates to the ritzy neighborhood of Bel Air in Los Angeles and hijinks ensue. It's a classic fish-out-of-water situational comedy, and without it, Will wouldn't be the movie star and entertainment icon he is today.

Writer, director, and cinematographer Morgan Cooper unveiled his take on Fresh Prince earlier this week with a trailer that reimagines Will's story in darker, more complex terms. It's absolutely worth watching if you have a few minutes to spare.

People couldn't get enough of it. The reception was enthusiastic, to say the least.

Their message was very clear: make this show real ASAP.

Honestly? I couldn't agree more.

Trump tweeted about 'SNL' last night even though it was just a re-run episode. Sad!

$

There are two things in this life that are certain: death and Donald Trump tweeting about how SNL hurt his feelings. And the latter often makes me wish for the former.

Last night's episode of SNL was a re-run, but apparently Trump still tuned in because he was poppin' off about it on Twitter, once again accusing the show of being biased and colluding with Russia. Always great to see the pot and the kettle spending time together.

The repeat episode last night included a sketch called “It’s A Wonderful Trump," which parodied It's A Wonderful Life by imagining a world where Trump was never president. When the sketch originally aired on December 15, it had also caused Trump to go on a Twitter tirade accusing SNL of colluding and conspiring against him. So it makes sense that the re-run of this episode triggered the president. Sad!

Anyway, I hope to one day find a passion as strong as the one Trump has for *going off* on SNL.

Chris Hemsworth accidentally posted a thirst trap and we're not mad about it.

This goes without saying, but Chris Hemsworth is daddy. He has a body sculpted by the gods, a face that resembles a god, and he plays a god named Thor. Plus he's Australian, so.

Anyway, now that we're all in agreement about Chris Hemsworth's perfection, let's talk about some important news that involves him and his ass. Hemsworth has been posting photos of himself with adorable creatures in the wild from his visit to Rottnest Island, Australia. Needless to say, this is the content we don't deserve but thank the gods of the internet for. We stan.

Twitter user @evanrosskatz pointed out that one of Hemsworth's posts displayed the actor absolutely slaying a back arch.

Naturally, others chimed in.

Y'all know people got their Thor puns in.

Gay twitter took note.

Honestly, everyone was drooling.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go shower off all of this sweat.

J.K. Rowling revealed more details about Dumbledore's sexuality. Accio, NSFW jokes!

$

This isn't the first time J.K. Rowling is getting burned for adding details about the Harry Potter universe long after the books have been published.

In a time when representation is a major priority in the entertainment industry, some people are grateful for Rowling's modern changes to "Harry Potter and the Woke World of Wizarding", while others are roasting her for not featuring these details in the original text. Just because you're a genius of fantasy novels doesn't mean the rest of us lowly dummies can just intuit that Dumbledore kissed a boy and he liked it!

While she has added plenty of insight into her subtle intentions for the characters and story over the years, the main detail fans are reacting to is Dumbledore's sexuality. Considering we've known about this fact for over 12 years (Rowling revealed Dumbledore's homosexuality in 2007) the detail has come back into focus with the new "Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald" movie. Honestly, young Dumbledore and young Grindelwald would've made a very hot couple so nobody is upset about that. It does seem, though, that these afterthoughts to her characters are her trying to play both sides.

Others defended her wholeheartedly:

Rowling's most recent update on Grindelwald and Dumbledore's love affair was on a feature for the Blu-ray DVD.

And of course, the jokes followed:

Anti-vaxx mom asks how to stop 18-year-old son from vaccinating himself. The internet delivered.

$
0
0

The anti-vaxx community has not only spread a wildfire of misinformation, but has proliferated measles outbreaks in 21 U.S. states in 2019 alone. The problem has become such a discussion point in the mainstream, that now the children of anti-vaxxers are beginning to take matters of personal and public health into their own hands.

Ethan Lindenberger recently made headlines after he testified in front of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions about the dangers of anti-vaccine proponents (such as his mom), and his personal decision to get vaccinated when he turned 18.

Well now, Lindenberger has inspired other teens to do the research and take their health into their own hands, and it's unsurprisingly not going over well with the anti-vaxx parents.

One mother on Quora asked the internet for tips on how to stop her son from getting vaccinated after his 18th birthday, and they were very quick to deliver.

Most of the commenters suggested she celebrate the fact that he survived this far without crucial medicine, before leaving him alone to make his own health decisions.

It was also suggested that perhaps the only way to prevent him from getting vaccinated at 18 was to either vaccinate him now, or usher in an early death.

Luckily, once he turns 18 there is no legal recourse the mother can take to prevent him from getting vaccinated, which means there will be one less person creating a potential health hazard. Hopefully, more and more children of anti-vaxxers will take the reigns on their own health, although it would be more ideal for them to not be forced in this position in the first place.

Khloe Kardashian posted about 'loving thy racist neighbor' and her fans are not loving it.

$
0
0

The concept of "killing them with kindness" is all in all a positive one. There are a lot of situations where responding to someone's rude behavior with love and patience can de-escalate a situation and open up mutual understanding.

However, the "love cures all" approach can be both dangerous and dehumanizing when it's applied to people with oppressive attitudes. Telling someone facing racism (whether personal or systemic) to lead with love can translate to them allowing others to abuse or mistreat them, and that is never okay.

One of Khloe Kardashian's recent Instagram stories caused reasonable backlash due to the prescription to "love your racist neighbor." The full image is emblazoned with the header that "love is the cure" and features a series of prompts to accept others.

Most of the prompts are healthy, like loving your homeless, Black, Gay, and Muslim neighbors. In fact, it's the contrast between the marginalized identities and the urge to "love your racist neighbor" that makes the image feel so cringe-inducing. The cringe is even deeper considering the fact that Khloe has a black daughter, which means her views on race relations will shape the environments her daughter is exposed to.

In general, placing the impetus to "love your racist neighbor" next to the impetus to love people that are actively oppressed by racists shows a lack of understanding around power dynamics.

However, not everyone took issue with Khloe's story. Some people were quick to point out the image was meant to encourage unconditional love in the Biblical sense. This doesn't necessarily translate to letting racists off the hook.

Regardless of the intentions, this is the kind of bold statement that needs more context and clarification on Khloe's part. Particularly, given the rise of hate crimes under the current administration, and the normalization of racist attitudes.

Trump accused 'SNL' of colluding with Russia and the internet tore him to pieces.

Our president is at it again, not understanding how comedy works.

Trump has been incredibly clear about his disdain for "Saturday Night Live" for awhile now on Twitter, but his most recent attack on the sketch show is truly unhinged. While it's true that comedians take every opportunity they can to roast people in positions of power and the president usually gets burned, Trump has to understand what makes him so easy to mock. He's a former reality TV star who grew up a millionaire and then put his name on a bunch of golden towers to make more millions. He's so much a caricature of a wealthy man who hates change and poor people that he's essentially a McDonald's-fueled Scrooge. Maybe Obama didn't have as many "one-sided" sketches because doing presidential things isn't as funny to put in a comedy as, I don't know, having an affair with a porn star?

SNL didn't air an episode this week and instead ran a rerun of their Christmas episode that featured a sketch parody of "It's a Wonderful Life." Trump, who claims to hate SNL but continues to watch it, tweeted this in response Sunday morning:

First of all, "not funny/no talent?" I'm dying to know who Trump thinks is the funniest and most talented comedian? Is it himself? Then, Trump really went for it:

If you're confused, yes he did just accuse SNL of colluding with Russia. Was that maybe just a joke from the man who said one of the most popular comedy shows in America is "not funny" with "no talent?" I hope so! What would a bunch of comedy writers gain from Russia? I have so many questions. Russia, can you answer on this?

Many were quit to point out that Trump missed the fact that it was a rerun, while others came to sh*t-talk:
