Joking about the awesomeness of John McCain’s death, and other normal things the president did today.

0
0

Donald Trump had a normal one today.

The phrase "having a normal one" is often used to sarcastically note a day that is not, in fact, normal. However, behavior that would be abnormal coming from other human beings is Trump's (white) bread and butter.

Take, for example, joking about how awesome John McCain dying was.

Here's the president talking to his evangelical cult followers supporters at the Faith and Freedom Coalition, doing one of his rants at on the TV, reminiscing about one of the many times that he failed to repeal Obamacare.

"Fortunately, they're gone now," Trump said of the Senators who didn't vote the way he wanted them to. "They've gone on to greener pastures. Or perhaps far less green, but they're gone. Very happy they're gone."

"Greener pastures...or perhaps for less green." Is he joking that McCain is in hell?

People in the audience seem to think so. You can hear a few laughs and a few gasps.

Some have speculated that Trump was referring to the still alive ex-senators Jeff Flake and Bob Corker, but they both voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

Trump's razor: the simplest answer is probably the right one.

The president bashed another "enemy" in addition to the dead senator. Trump seemed to have stumbled upon the viral video of soccer star Megan Rapinoe telling a reporter that she would not be “going to the f*cking White House" if the US Women's National Team wins the World Cup, which they likely will.

Trump proceeded to call Rapinoe unpatriotic for daring to criticize him, and then ranted about the ungrateful NBA, who don't even call owners "owners" anymore (???).

What does women's soccer have to do with the NBA, and what does NBA have to do with "black unemployment," Mr. President?

At first, Trump tagged then wrong account, which prompted this fun reply from a different Megan.

Trump also attacked Mueller, falsely accusing him deleting FBI officials' text messages. He falsely said that his migrant detention facilities are much nicer than Obama's (they aren't, and Obama kept families together). He falsely accused Congressional Democrats of being responsible for the policies that lead to the shocking photo of a father and daughter drowned in the Rio Grande River.

His behavior is held to such a different standard than other human beings', so much so that hundreds of former prosecutors say that he would be indicted for obstruction of justice if he had literally any other job. Lucky for him, he has the job. Congrats, guy!!

The best jokes from the side eye-filled first Democratic debate.

0

Night one of the first Democratic debate brought as barbs in both English and Spanish, but the real roast was on Twitter.

Here are the ones you need to see. Hopefully you don't run into any technical difficulties—unlike MSNBC.

Flexing in Spanish, who did 9/11: the Democratic debate moments worth talking about.

0
0

Wednesday night was the first night of the Democratic debate, and the first ten candidates in the race to replace Trump made their pitches in both English in Spanish. Senator Elizabeth Warren, Secretary Julian Castro, and eight other people clashed on mmigration, the economy, and...*checks notes*...who did 9/11?

Here's what your coworkers are going to be talking about at the watercooler (well, Slack).

1. Beto O'Rourke broke out into Spanish and Cory Booker was in awe.

When you meet your ex's new boyfriend they met studying abroad.

Beto O'Rourke made history by dodging the question asked of him in both Spanish and English, and speaking to both the "Beto" and "O'Rourke" parts of his name.

Cory Booker was clearly jealous that Beto beat him to it, and flexed his elementary Spanish muscles as soon as he got the chance.

2. Bill de Blasio had massive "and Peggy!" energy, interrupting people whenever he could.

The first candidate to respond to de Blasio's interruption with "hey, I'm talking here!" to the New York City mayor deserves the nomination.

3. Julian Castro showed everyone that not only is he a person who exists, he's a person who exists that has a comprehensive immigration plan that sees immigrants as humans.

4. He absolutely owned Beto, his fellow Texan, and had the courtesy to do so in English.

Castro called out Beto for not supporting his plan repeal a section of the Immigration and Nationality Act that makes unauthorized entry into the US a criminal offense, interrupting his answer to say, "your policies would criminalize a lot of these families."

5. Only de Blasio and Warren said they'd abolish private health insurance and transition everyone to a government-run plan like Canada or the UK.

Raise your hand if you've been personally victimized by private health insurance.

6. Jay Inslee interrupted Elizabeth Warren to say that he supports women.

Klobuchar clapped back.

7. Tulsi Gabbard's sister was salty, and tweeted that MSNBC is a pro-Warren conspiracy.

In reality, it was Booker who got to speak the most.

8. The moderators' earpieces got effed up as soon as Chuck Todd brought up gun control, and it sure looks like it was John Delaney.

It was all just control room talk.

9. Warren said that she had a plan to deal with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, but only Inslee said what it is.

10. Tulsi, after being questioned about her anti-LGBTQ past, tried real hard to say "LGBTQ" properly out loud.

11. Tim Ryan done gaffed, said that the Taliban did 9/11, got called out by Tulsi.

When you forget who did 9/11.

12. President Trump offered astute commentary throughout.

Cory and Beto spoke Spanish at last night's debate. AOC found it "humorous."

0
0

In case you missed it, two of the dudes running for president decided to dust off their Spanish at last night's presidential debate. And everyone's got an opinion on it, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Senator Cory Booker and non-senator Beto O'Rourke were the Spanish attempters in question. They answered a chunk of one question each in Spanish. Watch below:

Remote file

Oops, wrong clip. Here it is:

While the internet had its own reactions, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez headed to"The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" to register her amusement at their skills. She was mostly complimentary, while also deploying expert shade.

“I loved it," she said, "because, I represent the Bronx and there was a lot of Spanglish in the building.”

She added that the gents' use of the language was "humorous." Then she spoke Spanish herself and piled on some more shade, giving the Spanish translation for "I will not give you an answer to your question."

(Also, for what it's worth, AOC and Colbert agreed that Warren "knocked it out of the park" at this debate.)

Reaction to the dudes' Spanish skills has been mixed. Many have accused them of pandering. But the debate took place in Miami and was co-hosted by Telemundo. Also, um... guys? No matter what your Trump-voting uncle says, the US actually doesn't have an official language. Tens of millions of Americans speak Spanish. The US has more Spanish-speakers than Spain! It probably shouldn't be this unusual for us to see Spanish spoken at a political function.

Still, many are saying the guys' attempts at Spanish were embarrassing. Brad Polumbo of the Washington Examiner said it was"offensive pandering at its worst."

And some couldn't help but notice that the Spanish-language answers were actually a bit flimsy.

And the internet, of course, said it was great meme fodder.

Sadly for Booker, his shady side-eye was circulated more than his actual language skills.

CNN Politics was kind enough to dig through the trenches of Cory Booker's Twitter account for a little back story: Booker once studied abroad in Ecuador, and this is how he "improved" his Spanish language "abilidad."

O'Rourke, meanwhile, has been flexing his Spanish skills for a while now. He once suggested debating Ted Cruz in Spanish, forcing Cruz to admit he speaks one language and one language only: a sort of strangled, high-pitched undertaker's English.

Marianne Williamson, the presidential candidate most likely to corner you at a bar asking for your birth time, had jokes.

Which reminds us: yes, there's another set of debates tonight at 9 p.m., featuring ten more candidates. Tune in to watch Bernie Sanders yell at things, probably in English.

Leonardo DiCaprio took a titanic shot to the face from a volleyball on the beach.

Leonardo DiCaprio, the 44 year old Academy Award winner took a shot to the face with a volleyball, and because everything is filmed and photographed these days, it was caught on film (or on pixels, but don't be pedantic).

This could, and has, happened to most of us, so why do we laugh at Leo? Because he's rich, famous, and hasn't dated anyone over college age in his life. Jealous, maybe. But don't judge. We'd laugh at you too if you got plonked in the face with a ball (as long as you weren't seriously hurt).

Twitter didn't disappoint with the jokes, and here we have them for you.

22 men reveal the 'guy secrets' that women don't know about. You do WHAT NOW??

0
0

Someone recently posed this question to Reddit: "What are some 'guy secrets' that girls don't know about?" A lot of these are funny and probably true for many men, especially if we're talking about cisgendered heterosexual men. And a lot of these are secrets that men wouldn't have to keep if our society didn't uphold such toxic standards for masculinity. And a lot of these "secrets" are already out, because here's a "secret" women have: we know your secrets! That being said, as a "girl" myself, some of these were genuinely illuminating and, dare I say, even helpful.

Here's 22 men dishing on the "secrets" they're keeping from the women in their lives:

1) From jamestar1122:

Many men have anxiety and/or depression but we will not talk about and will get moderately annoyed at you for bringing it up.

2) From iamsochok:

Sometimes we pee on the poo stains in the toilet because we are too lazy to use the scrub.

3) From Hades621:

Sometimes we don’t talk to people cause we don’t want to intimidate them. I might see a girl with a cool shirt on but I don’t want to make her think I’m coming on to her or something. Rather than freak her out that a 6’6 guy thinks she looks good today, I just leave her alone. Especially if we’re on an elevator or something where she can’t leave if she actually is uncomfortable.

4) From anonymousacts:

We get raped too.

Can confirm I was molested by a neighbors babysitter (15F) when I was 7.

5) From Annie_RU_Oakley:

Sex isn't all we want in a relationship. I'd rather be with someone who understands me but only does it once in a while than someone who I have sex with every day but don't connect with emotionally and mentally.

Some of us are into things like cooking, cleaning, makeup, fashion, etc. It doesn't necessarily mean we're gay.

Please don't tell us to "man up". A lot of us were constantly told that growing up whenever we tried to express ourselves so you saying it will often bring up bad memories.

Men can be abused. Men can be raped. Men also tend to be more suicidal because society tells us we're weak if we try to discuss these things. No, we don't "enjoy" being raped by a hot girl, and we often don't talk about it because people will often straight-up tell us we're lying about it if we do.

6) From juicydaddy69:

idk if other guys feel this too, but im always afraid of accidentally making women feel uncomfortable in my presence, for example when i happen to walk in the same direction as a woman in front of me for a while. and im not even interested in women in the first place.

7) From First-Fantasy:

There is no amount of hot sex that will stop us from masturbating as soon as we're alone. Its two separate releases and you just filled up the spank bank.

8) From AmericanPixel:

Men have a box that our minds go into. It's called the "Nothing Box."

So next time you ask a man what he's thinking about and he answers with "nothing." There is a good chance he's telling you the truth.

9) From dapharaoh:

Maybe this is more of a 'dad secret' but, I dont "baby sit" my own kids, that's called fathering damnit!

10) From 01123581321AhF*ckIt:

If you compliment my appearance I will probably remember forever.

I still remember when a girl in college told me I look nice with my beard when I first grew it out. I’ve had a beard ever since...

11) From heapsp:

A lot of porn is really weird... just because we watched a video about banging a step sister while her head was stuck in the drier, doesnt mean that's some sort of weird fantasy. The girl just looked good in the thumbnail.

12) From prospecthummmer:

After a shower, we have no problem drying our balls and face with the same towel. Most of the time we try to dry the face first, then the sack. But sometimes we have to go back to the face. We just hope we use an uncontaminated part of the towel.

Edit: "uncontaminated." My balls are clean after a shower. Just, you know. Wiping the balls then wiping my face is just kind of.......yea.

14) From ShakaWTWF:

I’m secretly an emotional wreck, I just hide it.

15) From Duesizzle:

As an older man, we don't expect you to look like a supermodel as we age together. Yes, at times I do see you as I did 30 years ago and every wrinkle and flaw disappears. Yes, there are times I see every wrinkle and flaw, and know how you got every one of them. They are beautiful too.

OH NO THERE SOMETHING IN MY EYE 😭😭😭

16) From Krzysiuu:

Its not uncommon for us to genuinely think you’re beautiful without any makeup.

17) From DepressedBard:

Your chances of getting what you want out of us are infinitely higher if you tell us directly.

18) Via realbadaccountant:

When people come crying to us, our first inclination is to fix the problem.

Since this is (often) not possible, lead with something along the lines of “Can I vent for a minute?” Or anything that signals to us this is just a time for active listening, rather than a problem solving session.

19) From aestusveritas:

When we want to be alone, it's not that we don't want to be around you, it's that we don't want to be around anyone for a bit.

20) From Johnchuk:

If we tie down anything in the back of a pickup truck or trailer it's physically impossible for us not to stand back and say "that's not going anywhere."

21) From banjohusky95:

We really do think your hair is good. It looked good before and after you got a hair cut. If looked good curly and it looked good straight. It looked good when you woke up and when you made it. As long as its shaped like the hair we gave girls on stick figures when we were 5 years old, we think it looks good.

22) From feeln4u:

You can squeeze the head of your penis and the tip lips will move like a mouth and you can talk to it.

THE MORE YOU KNOW.

Man asks if it's wrong to hide his terminal illness from his wife. The internet intervenes.

0
0

Finding out you only have a year to live is no small pill to swallow. Not only do you have to grieve the end of your own life, but you also have to break the news to your friends and family, while dealing with all of their feelings about losing you.

Given the straight-up existential toll, and the limited remaining time, it completely makes sense for someone with a terminal illness to live their final year spontaneously, completely unfocused on their impending death. But there is a line between not wanting your illness to take the center of attention, and completely hiding it from those closest to you.

In a recent post on the subreddit Am I The Asshole, a man shared that he just found out he has a year to live, but doesn't plan to tell his wife for at least a few months.

"AITA for not telling my wife that I am dying?"

"Male, 31 here. For the past 15 years, I’ve been dealing with a medical condition that requires constant medication and consistent doctor’s visits. I had always been projected to live until 50-60ish, however, a recent complication has cut that down to 12 months, 16 at best. In about 10 months, my condition should start getting a lot worse. After 12 months, I’ll essentially be living in the hospital."

OP has been married four years (with no kids) and has been consistently dealing with a chronic medical condition for 15 years. During a recent visit, he found out the condition has worsened and he has roughly 12-16 months to live.

"I am married of 4 years (no kids). I haven’t had the heart to tell my wife the news. I don’t even know how. We always knew I’d die younger than I wanted to, but we never expected it to be this soon."

As much as I know I should tell my wife, I don’t want my last year to be plagued with an impending doom.

Now, OP is unsure how to break the news to his wife, especially since he doesn't want his final year to be clouded by sadness and grief.

"My wife and I have always talked about living abroad somewhere, maybe Australia, but we’ve never found the time or money to do so. I’ve been saving up to go to graduate school, however, I don’t see much point in that now."

So, rather than telling her immediately, OP is toying with the idea of living abroad with her (a long-time dream of theirs) for a year and breaking the news at the end of their time.

"So here’s my idea: take some of that money, and take my wife to Australia for a few months, and enjoy the time together. I have a job I can work remotely from anywhere, and she has a job that she can easily find work anywhere. We can work part-time, and enjoy our time together."

"When we get back, or maybe towards the end of it, I will break the news to her. I just wouldn’t want the trip to be ruined for us by constant reminders of me dying. I know my wife, and she’s very emotional - to the point where I feel like she will be crying everyday and not enjoying herself. I want this memory to be a good one for her, and not plagued by my time ticking down."

Above all, OP wants their final memories to be marked with happiness and peace, not deep existential sadness.

"AITA for putting off telling her I am dying?"

"Note: I have life insurance that will take care of her, so I am not too worried about spending this money now on this trip. And I plan on talking to her about a sperm bank, just in case she decides she wants my kids in the future, as well as premised birthday cards and other things for her to have."

Still, OP is aware that keeping his terminal status from his wife could be a grave mistake, so he brought the question to the internet.

CalLil6 is currently losing her husband, and said OP keeping it a secret would be unforgivable.

"As the wife of a husband who is also dying, please, please tell her. She’ll never forgive you if you don’t."

"Well first of all, don’t lie to her or hide anything from her. You’re not protecting her, you’re just making her hurt 10x worse when she finds out. You’re ruining what should be her last good memories of the person she loves."

Get all of your paperwork sorted out as soon as possible. Insurance, wills, deeds, bank accounts, whatever will make it easier for her to not have to deal with after you pass. For example, my husband put our new house, car, and bank accounts all in my name so I don’t have to worry about removing him from them or accessing our accounts when he dies. Also make sure she knows what your end of life instructions are in case she has to make medical decisions for you, and what you want her to do in terms of funeral/burial/cremation etc.

"Whatever you always wanted to do, do now. If you want to live in Australia for your last year then go ahead and make that move. My husband always wanted to retire in France and run a bed and breakfast, he probably has 3 or 4 good years left (we hope) so we’re doing that now. Sold our house and business, got rid of everything we own, and bought a big old house in the south of France."

Otiswillplaythecat thinks OP should let his wife talk to the doctor.

"Arrange for a meeting with your doctor. Have them walk your wife through everything you were told. There’s no easy way to do it, but having your doctor there to answer her questions will be valuable."

cortex0 believes OP keeping this a secret will cloud his wife's grief with anger.

"YTA, definitely she has a right to know. Can't imagine how angry she'll be finding out so late, knowing you were keeping the secret, not being able to prepare her life, to cherish the last months together consciously... you gotta tell her."

CunningStuntTeam understands where OP is coming from, but agrees that he needs to tell his wife.

"NAH. Tell her. She will be so upset if you don’t and it will fall on her like a ton of bricks. This happened to my partner with their parent. They weren’t told (20-21 years old at the time) and then the parent suddenly passed. They did find out that it was hidden info on purpose and it’s still a wound today. Tell her."

All in all, this is an unimaginably painful situation, and it's completely understandable that OP doesn't want to have this conversation with his wife. Who would?! Hopefully he is able to find peace and they are able to enjoy their last year together.

Trump attacks wrong woman in 'feud' with soccer star. Her response deserves a World Cup.

0
0

Welcome to the Wild West of 2019. When the deeply-unhinged president is not too busy maybe-kinda-starting wars and then taking it back, he is picking fights with celebrities on Twitter. Recently, he tried to feud with U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe. She got under his skin after telling reporters she wouldn't attend the White House if her team wins the 2019 Women's World Cup. Actually her exact words were "I'm not going to the f****** White House. We're not going to be invited."

A clip of her NSFW comments went viral on Twitter because they reflect a real universal MOOD right now.

Yesterday the president responded the only way he knows how: by unleashing an epic, barely coherent rant on Twitter aimed at the women's soccer star. However, he made a classic error and tagged the wrong Megan Rapinoe. He must've realized his mistake since he since deleted the tweets. But not before writer Molly Jong-Fast screencapped them and shared them for the world to remember:

How you know the USA is not, in fact, doing great.

THIS IS NOT NORMAL. Except, tragically in 2019, it is.

Trump deleted his oopsy, but not before submitting some poor woman with the name Megan Rapinoe to the abuse of Trump's dimwit followers. Not that any of the Megan Rapinoes deserve that. Luckily, this Megan Rapinoe was well-equipped to handle it and came for the President with this perfectly-timed response:

Then she followed up with this tweet savagely dragging his followers:

Many seem to agree that the winner of Twitter yesterday was Megan Rapinoe, the one whose Twitter bio reads "not Megan Rapinoe" (presumably Trump's followers haven't gotten the memo, or they have but they can't read).

There is also some confusion as to why Trump's rant against Megan included a diatribe about black unemployment. Does he think Megan is black? Maybe.

He got her Twitter handle wrong so it's very feasible he just assumed she's black because she's an athlete.

Or maybe he does have a draft on his phone that he copy-and-pastes for beefs with athletes. Or maybe he's just a clueless idiot behaving like a clueless idiot as usual. That last one seems the most likely.

MOM PLEASE COME PICK ME UP THE PRESIDENT IS VERY DUMB AND BAD I AM SCARED.

Pro-vax mom gets in trouble with the law for having an unvaccinated sick baby.

0
0

Tensions run high in the anti-vax debate, because it's literally a matter of life and death (Somebody please tell Jessica Biel).

Sometimes situations are more nuanced than "I am an idiot, so I won't be vaccinating my kid," and the case goes to court.

On April 30th, armed officers showed up at an Orthodox Jewish woman's apartment to serve her a summons for failing to vaccinate one of her nine children.

The "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" defense.

She wasn't deliberately skirting her responsibilities to the community in the face of the public health emergency, though. The woman, identified as Jane Doe in court documents, is pro-vaccine, and vaccinated eight of her children. The summons she received was for her youngest son, who at eight months old, had been sick for several weeks.

Because the baby was experiencing fevers and ear infections, his doctor said to hold off on the vaccination until the baby recovered.

The Kings County Sheriffs' office didn't know that when they banged on her door at ten at night, scaring her (vaccinated!) children. Her kids were so afraid, and in order to calm them down, Doe told them that the armed guards were simply selling furniture. This is America after all—furniture salesmen have the right to bear arms.

"I’m a very responsible mother...I was very hurt about this whole thing," Doe told Gothamist/WNYC. "I feel they’re coming very strong on me because of the public and because of the anti-vaxxers."

In April, New York City declared an emergency order changing the immunization requirement from twelve months old to six months old. Doe was out of the loop as an Orthodox Jewish woman who doesn't watch TV or use the internet, and her doctor didn't mention it, even though the emergency order had been already declared.

Doe argued her case when she was summoned to court, and if the court rules in favor of the city, she will be charged an $1,000 fine.

Gothamist reports that the court has been pretty forgiving and understanding of circumstance. Doe was one of 209 individuals who had received summonses under the city’s mandatory vaccination order. Ninety of those cases were withdrawn after the defendants complied with the city’s order and vaccinated their children.

20 people share what happened to the popular kids since graduation. Katie is a murderer?!

0

While popularity during childhood is relatively arbitrary in the long-term, high-school marks some deeply formative years and many people identify with their social standing during that time, for better or worse.

The movies often paint the "popular kids" in school as overly privileged jerks, but the reality of school hierarchies are much less straightforward or predictable. Some kids are popular because they're genuinely kind and smart, while others fit the bill for the rich bully or master manipulator.

Regardless of whether they kept killing it or peaked as teens, many of us have scoured the web to see what became of the "cool kids" we used to envy in order to see if high school really serves as a preview for adult life.

In a recent Reddit thread, people shared where the popular kids from their schools are now, and it runs the range from prison to top executive.

1. Razvee's popular friend was always destined for greatness.

"Coolest kid in my school was one of those charismatic prodigies, he got full ride scholarships, he partied with the jocks, played magic with the nerds, talked to me about building computers and always kicked my ass at counter strike... and he played 4 instruments before he was 15."

"I think he got a degree in Chemical Engineering, then went back for one year to get a Music Theory degree too... then after 5 years of working he decided that he wanted to be a doctor so he went back to med school and eventually started his own practice. Fuckin' dude had cheat codes on. One of those people you just kind of wish would go into politics."

2. The popular guys from ronnie_boy's school had very different fates.

"One went to jail for drug possession with intent to sell, one dropped out of college and works at a mall kiosk, and other quit his cushy corporate job and started a non-profit that provides shelter, food and job resources to homeless single mothers and their children."

3. TheJadedSF's classmates didn't hit it big musically, yet.

"Their rapping careers never took off I’m afraid"

4. racf599 has a more depressing answer.

"One is dead, one is doing life in the federal pen for running a meth ring. the rest are just living the standard issue small town life."

5. Paddlingmyboat is grieving.

"I think most of them have done very well. One of them, the best looking, most athletic boy in my school died from ALS several years ago. That really rocked me for some reason; I didn't even really know the guy. He was cool, but he seemed like a decent person."

6. megavenusaurs's bully experienced karma.

"Popular girl in middle school. She used to bully me since I was the shy quiet kid with no friends. In high school life got better for me and I wasn’t bullied anymore, and I didn’t see much of her. She got into drugs but remained the pretty popular girl with lots of friends."

"A few months after we graduated, she murdered someone, another kid our age, in a botched robbery with two of her friends. Rot in prison Katie."

7. Juswantedtono's peers kept the success train rolling.

"Most of them got into Ivy League schools/top private schools and then landed 6-figure jobs after graduation in big cities"

8. JasmineMeowsters holds the power now.

"The cool bully kid who bullied me in high school ask me last year if I have a job for him."

9. The captain of the cheerleading squad from fredzout's school kept the cheerleading train rolling.

"Well, the captain of the cheerleading squad left after graduation, but only long enough to go to university and get a teaching degree. She came back to the school as a teacher, became the faculty advisor for the cheerleading squad and recently retired. So, she stayed in high school for 30 years."

10. Unicornh0le's classmates got sucked into the MLM dream.

"They all got fake tits, married old bald guys for a few years, popped out a kid or two then took off with half his money. Now they drink way too much wine, post about how being a stay at home mom is the hardest job EVER and have leather skin and try to sale me makeup on fb."

11. RedditSkippy's popular classmates had a variety of fates.

"Basically, I don’t really know about most of them."

"The one girl who was like the queen bee in my class ended up getting pregnant at 20 by her longtime boyfriend, returning home while she had the baby, and then finished school locally. I think she married the boyfriend and they’re still married (I should look that up.) Her son should be in his mid 20s now. I remember finding out about this when I was preparing for a semester abroad, and how different our lives immediately became."

"Another kid from a few years before me owns a bar and dabbles in music. Seems pretty happy."

"A girl from that same class, who was going to go out and conquer Broadway, ended up on a soap for a few years, then did audiobook narrations, ended up in Las Vegas. She’s now divorced and from the little bit I’ve seen on Facebook, is not aging well. Meh. Quite a fall, because, whoa, she was untouchable in high school."

"A couple of the popular girls came out as lesbians (looking back, um, how did we not know?) A few other people (I went to my 25th last year,) seem to be normal suburban moms and dads, working, taking care of the house, etc., etc."

12. eclantantfille lost a good person.

"For most, I genuinely don't know. For one boy, he had dreams of moving down south to get away from the cold winters, as well as experience life in a bigger city. A big aspiration was also to break into the music industry. A very polite, happy, charismatic boy that everyone liked. He did make it down south, had some steady work, and even was playing music here and there."

"You know how sometimes you get certain feelings about someone, but you don't know why. Little things they say and do just cause you to get a particular aura from them. I always got a feeling that he was carrying a lot of sadness internally. I remember him getting a little defensive about smoking marijuana stating that he liked the way it made him feel. This feeling of joy lead him down a destructive path of drug experimentation in order to find greater joy.

He overdosed and died this past weekend."

13. colestellation knows that what is cool as a teen isn't healthy in the long-term.

"They're all addicts from what I've heard, I guess that's what happens when you start doing drugs at 14. it's unfortunate, they could have done so much, ya know?"

14. FeedtheFreak saw the dark side of getting popular early.

"Half of them sell crack, the other are sound cloud rappers who smoke in mall stairwells. You figure out real soon being cool in high school doesn't mean much."

15. Primmcess says only a few made it out well.

"Emotionally stunted addicts with numerous kids and no way or desire to support them. I think 2 of them actually moved off to college, didn't go crazy, graduated, got married, and are leading productive lives."

16. Mary-jane-on-wall-st wanted more for their friends.

"Some of them became well adjusted adults with successful careers and are very happy in life, others though became total train wrecks. The group of girls I used to hang out with that were considered ‘edgy’ and ‘cool’ ended up being complete shitshows with serious alcohol and addiction problems. A lot of them suffer from crippling mental health issues as well. It’s really sad actually bc they had so much promise and potential. I hope they get the help they need."

17. The popular girl from Snooglekatz's school married rich.

"They got everything. The homecoming queen never went to college, went to the right bars instead, married rich and has a house that could be on a soap opera with a ton of land. She doesn't work."

18. ljt624's popular group is split.

"Prom king died of an overdose at 30. Homecoming queen ran over a little kid in her car a year after graduation. She went to jail for a year or two."

"Most of the other cool kids went to college, got normal jobs, and have pretty decent lives (or so it seems). Good looking spouses, nice homes, nice cars, a couple kids, etc."

19. MamieJoJackson made an important distinction between actual cool kids and temporarily popular kids.

"Well, there were the actually-cool "cool kids" who are now happy, successful people, with fulfilling lives, and then there were the not-really-cool "cool kids" who are in MLMs, engaged to convicted child molesters, or in prison for killing one of their kids while driving super high and drunk with 3 other small children in the car."

"The actually-cool "cool kids" were kind to everyone, and everyone liked them because of it. The not-actually-cool "cool kids" took the stereotype to heart and lived it out, unfortunately."

13 men share tips for mothers raising boys. Don't insult my junk, mom.

0

The pressure to be a parent in this political climate is...daunting.

How do we teach boys that it's ok to be strong and masculine and brave while also teaching them how to respectful, thoughtful and emotionally intuitive? It definitely can be done as there are plenty of good men out there, but raising decent humans is a challenge for any parent.

While some people wish for boys as they're "easier" in a lot of ways, the #MeToo movement and the rising numbers in college boys assaulting women are an indicator that young men are not ok. Is it because they're told to "man up" whenever they have feelings? Let your boys cry!

Questions like this were raised when a recent Reddit user asked, "Men of Reddit, what are somethings a mom should know while raising a boy?" While we're fighting for equality between the sexes, there are still plenty of experiences that men don't understand about womanhood and women don't understand about manhood. Luckily, the internet was here to help.

1. Good tip, "Mattsterical."

don't tease your sons about any female friends, it usually leads to issues with them being unable to talk to you about things when they actually do like someone.

2. Yup, "Remahlehs."

Teach him to cook. My post-college roommate had his mom cook all of his meals. It was embarrassing to watch him try to operate a kitchen when he decided he wanted to make something of his own.

3. Let your kids live, "Miss_Sweetie_Poo."

Encourage them to be adventurous, to take smart risks, and how to negotiate.

Was raised by a very overprotective mother, I learned none of these things till middle age.

4. Nice, "ZedekiahCromwell."

Keep your promises. Especially the small ones that are easy to let slip. And when you break or slip up on one, directly acknowledge it with them and apologize while trying to make amends. Even (especially, really), if they don't remember. Raising a child that keeps their word is 100% modeling, not lecture. You have to show them how to build those skills by demonstrating them daily, while reinforcing that with direct explanation of what you're doing or thinking in relevant contexts.

Simply put, don't hold them or yourself to a standard of perfection or pure honesty, expect accountability and integrity, even in failure or mistakes. It's just as important how we handle when we fail through our own mistakes as trying to avoid making them.

5. Can't emphasize this enough, "MetaphoricalProverb."

Actually knock and wait. They might not be masturbating but they still like their privacy. Otherwise they lock their door so you cant get in. They close themselves into a mental cage because YOU... THOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT IDEA TO JUST BARGE INTO LITTLE TIMMY'S ROOM WHEN HE SPECIFICALLY STATED THAT HE DOESNT LIKE IT WHEN YOU DO THAT.

6. Cover the ween! "Dvl_Brd."

When changing a diaper, have the new one ready, and cover the ween. Cold air hits and they pee!

7. Yes, "lotsoflukey."

It's good to be involved, but don't be overbearing. The most stressed out and repressed guys I knew growing up were always the ones whose mothers controlled every aspect of their lives.

Also, have trust and tell him you love him.

8. Give him space, "NateDawg007."

If you are arguing and he retreats to his own room or outside, don't follow along continuing the argument. Young people have a hard time expressing themselves and may need time to process their thoughts. Men are too often given the impression that they are only allowed specific responses and unfortunately one of them is anger. As a teenager I couldn't get away from my parents when we argued and I ended up feeling trapped.

9. LET HIM DO IT, "BadkyDrawnBear."

When your teenage son suddenly wants to do his own laundry LET HIM!!

You do not need to be touching what he is trying to wash away...

10. Girls are equals! "BUFFALO____."

Make sure he knows girls are also people just like him so he doesn't be all awkward around them thinking they are some higher being. Figured that out myself after elementary school and now i can talk to anyone with ease.

11. GIVE HIM A MINUTE, "Harperlarp."

If you knock on his door and he says 'Give me a minute', give him a minute, don't just walk in.

12. Absolutely, "Koryzer."

Have a healthy relationship with your husband, boyfriend, girlfriend or whatever. Having a welcoming, stable, warm home is the very basis of being a positive influence on your children. Don't just focus on teaching him the good stuff, focus as well on being a role model for him.

.13. Your mom is a bully, "SuperMax42."

The penis grows during puberty

My mom has little knowledge of male biology, when I was like 6 or 7, she teased me that my penis was too small. OF COURSE IT'S SMALL, I'm only 6, and it grows as I grow older!

PS: My wee-wee isn't small anymore

14. Yeesh, "DJCallous."

Do not take our blankets off in the morning when you try to get us to wake up.

Warning: Trump's tweets will have warning labels under Twitter's new policy.

0
0

On Thursday, Twitter announced a new policy that will undoubtedly affect Trump's tweets, as well as the social media presence of other politicians using the website to tease nuclear war via cloying adolescent dick jokes.

Under this new policy, Twitter will place warnings on tweets that violate the rules of conduct but still count as "matters of public interest."

In laymen's terms, this means politicians, political candidates, government leadership, and verified accounts with ver 100,000 followers won't get booted for violating the rules, but they will have a warning slapped on their tweets that followers will have to click through.

This policy is highly likely to further fuel Trump's narrative that social media, and the media in general, is biased against him.

Conversely, this policy also officially confirms the fact that public figures aren't held accountable for the strength and affect of their words in the social media sphere.

Activists and other concerned people have called for Trump to get banned for his past tweets inciting violence, the likes of which include tweeting a video of him beating up a man dressed as CNN, retweeting violently anti-Muslim videos, and calling a former staffer a low life and a dog.

The company announced that the warning labels will be determined by members of its trust and safety, legal and public policy team.

Technically, warning labels aside, public figures can still get tweets fully removed for direct threats of violence.

13 women share tips for dads raising daughters. Don't be embarrassed to buy her tampons.

Being a woman is a complex identity these days.

Many parents feel overprotective over their daughters as opposed to their sons, a problem that's starting to shift. Parents are getting more comfortable now, though, letting their sons express emotions and their daughters express more traditionally masculine behaviors as we edge toward a more gender fluid society.

How do you let your daughter be free and independent while also making sure she knows how to keep herself safe?

How can you tell her she can do anything she wants to do, but also recognize the reality that there are some things in life that are still more difficult for women?

Earlier, a reddit user asked "Men of Reddit, what are some things a mom should know while raising a boy?" and the answers were incredibly helpful. Make sure to always knock on the door, let them do their own laundry, teach them to cook, and don't tease them about their crushes on girls. Following that train of thought, another Reddit user asked, "women of Reddit, what are some things a dad should know about raising a girl?" and the answers were equally interesting. It's rough out there to be a parent, but the internet is here to help!

1. Spot on, "pickmeacoolname."

How you treat her and her mom is how she will expect to be treated by her partner when she’s older.

2. Yes, "ratchmond."

Make sure to teach us “boy” stuff, too! I was an only child, and my dad still taught me to drive a tractor, change a tire, hang drywall, and fix things around the house. These skills have come in handy many times in the years since and especially when I was living alone. Plus, it was great bonding time for me and dad :)

3. 100%, "MusingLife."

Don't be too overprotective. How long can you protect her? One day she'll be on her own and she'll not know how to. Teach her how to be independent instead. To do things on her own. Teach her self-defense. Teach her to be safe.

4. Yes, please! "Bossypants92."

Just buy her the tampons and don't be embarrassed about it. My dad raised my sister and I alone after my mom passed away when I was 11 and he was always so weird about this - MEN, it's not a big deal!!! The cashier knows it's not for you LOL

5. This is so real, "uglygirlohio."

Your words stay with her for life.

6. Yup, "itsacalamity."

She is going to get hit on so much earlier than you think. I started getting whistled at walking past construction sites when I was 11. Teach her the skills to deal with rejecting someone politely but firmly and sticking to her guns (metaphorically)

7. Respect her space! "bebelabeaux."

When they are teenagers, respect their space as it’s a tough time for them and honestly it’s really difficult to talk to your dad about. We have mood swings and you might think we hate you but we love you dearly! Be there for her when she needs it too!

8. This is so solid, "Unsolicited_Spiders."

Do. NOT. Focus. On. Her physical looks.

Teach her good hygiene. Encourage her to eat healthy and to exercise. Teach her context for why certain clothes are more appropriate than others ("It's disrespectful to wear short shorts at church. Wear them to the beach if you want, but church is for formal clothes/business casual/etc"). But for the love of god never tell her she's too fat or too skinny. Never tell her she's "lucky she's pretty". Never prioritize her beauty over her personality. Never tell her she should wear different clothes for her body type (e.g. "Your legs look better in long pants than in shorts"). If she makes an effort to look nice, comment on specifics, like, "You did a good job on your makeup," or, "That dress is a nice color on you," or "I like what you did with your hair." That takes the focus off her inherent looks ("You look gorgeous") and puts it on her effort and attention to detail.

She will get enough self-esteem blows and unrealistic expectations from society at large. She deserves better from you.

9. Listen to her, "misslulah."

I know you probably don't want to hear about what happened with Sarah and Kyle today in prealgebra or the character break down of her latest teen novel but just listen to her. The moment you dismiss her thoughts and interests is the moment that wall starts going up between. Make an effort to remember some names and details and it'll mean everything to her. Don't laugh at her or get mad when she bursts into tears over something that you perceive as insignificant. Not only is she young and her world is smaller but if she's above the age of ten her emotions are running wild.

Basically just treat her like her thoughts and feelings are valid. It's so easy to forget about how big your emotions feel when you're young. And the reason that I, as a 26 year old woman, still talk to my father weekly and greet him with a big hug is that he listened with empathy.

10. ACCEPT THIS, "bigweight93."

She's gonna have sex eventually

11. Let her cry! "YorkshireLavender."

Don’t tell her off for crying. My dad would always shout at me for crying and it always felt (still does) like a terrible thing to do. I find it hard now to process my emotions and feel 100x worse whenever I do cry as it’s something I shouldn’t do

12. A+, "italia_inxxie."

If they say they don't want to be touched they don't want to be touched. This should be done with both genders but for girls saying they don't want to be touched and then their dad does it anyway really sucks and leads to mixed messages about what your personal boundaries are allowed to be.

13. Absolutely, "CautiousShower."

Don't excuse the behavior of men "because they're men." Girls are victimized EARLY. I was groped for the first time at nine years old. My father not excusing that as "boys being boys" is why I have always been able to recognize that behavior as unacceptable. But I know so many women whose dads didn't teach them this way, who just expect that this is how all men will act BECAUSE they are men. Some have even been raped, but won't report it because "maybe they did something to cause it."

Teach your girls to demand better.

Trump just joked to Putin "Don't meddle in the elections," because subverting our democracy is hilarious.

President Donald J. Trump met with Russian president Vladimir Putin at the G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, and when asked about Russian meddling by a reporter he jokingly, with a smirk on his face said, “Don’t meddle in the election,” while faux scolding the Russian president.

You can see the videos here.

If you were a president who had been helped by the Russians would you act like that? We might play it a bit cooler.

25 jokes from women this week that will make you smile (not that we’re telling women to smile).

It is a truth universally acknowledged that you need to laugh after this absolute sh*tstorm of a week, which brought us two Democratic debates (with pandering in two different languages), more reporting on the horrific conditions that immigrant children are being kept in against their will, and the age old question: "Does it matter if the president is a rapist?"

Enjoy these jokes, that are almost as funny (but certainly more clear) than anything Marianne Williamson says.

Kamala Harris came at Joe Biden's 'racist' past at last night's debate, and he made it worse.

0
0

The standout of last night's second round of Democratic debates was probably Kamala Harris, although the "most memorable" award has to go to Marianne Williamson for her semi-coherent woo woo babbling. But California Senator Harris could not have been farther from woo woo or babbling. She came prepared, she did not come to play, and her capabilities in this arena dazzled in comparison to her throng of opponents. One of the defining moments of the debate came when she side-swiped Joe Biden during a discussion about race and policing, confronting him on his past work with segregationists and questioning his opposition to federal busing. Her comments left him reeling. Even his friendship with Obama, which he's mentioned approx 1 million times, couldn't get him out of this one.

"Vice President Biden, I do not believe you are a racist..." began the Senator, bringing the room to silence (no small feat). She then brought up a recent comment in which Biden talked about working with segregationist senators in the 1970s as a way to illustrate his willingness to work with people he disagrees with. Many people did not take well to the comments, including Harris, who said she was personally "hurt" by them. She also called him out for his opposition to federal busing, and revealed that as a child she was bused as a part of the second class to integrate public schools in her county. You can watch the moment, which was one of the defining moments of the debate, here:

These were her full comments:

I do not believe you are a racist and I agree with you when you commit yourself to the importance of finding common ground. But I also believe — and it's personal and it was hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country. It was not only that, but you also worked with them to oppose busing. There was a little girl in California who was part of the second class to integrate her public schools, and she was bused to school every day. That little girl was me. So I will tell you that on this subject, it cannot be an intellectual debate among Democrats. We have to take it seriously. We have to act swiftly.

Biden's response was indirect, unprepared and fumbling, and many are using it to question the former VP's ability to withstand an inevitably vicious campaign season. It also could make him seem incapable of standing up to the President, who has already begun to bully him for his perceived weaknesses.

Biden said:

It's a mischaracterization of my position across the board. I did not praise racists. The fact is that, in terms of busing, the busing, I never — you would have been able to go to school the same exact way because it was a local decision made by your city council. ...

I supported the ERA from the very beginning. I'm the guy that extended the Voting Rights Act for 25 years. ... I've also argued very strongly that we, in fact, deal with the notion of denying people access to the ballot box. I agree that everybody, once they, in fact — anyway, my time is up. I'm sorry.

Regarding Biden's clumsy response, writer Clint Smith said:

"My time is up" were also clumsy words for the former VP, who has come under fire for his inappropriate behavior towards women, as well as his age, 76. Harris, 54, was quick not only on the debate stage, but on Twitter. Moments after she swept the floor with Biden in the debate, her social media team immortalized the moment on Twitter with this iconic photo:

Whether or not you are a fan of the California senator, she killed it last night. And by "it" I mean Biden's career. Jk jk, but time will tell.
