On July 28, 2011, 17-year-old Morolake Akinosun tweeted her Five Year Plan: in 5 years, she claimed she would have graduated from college and be on her way to competing in the Olympics. Now, five years later, her prediction has come true! On July 30, 2016 she retweeted her original tweet, adding that in December she will have graduated from the University of Texas and that next week she's going to Brazil to compete in Track and Field. All her hard work paid off!

It's always heartening to see that dreams really are achievable, and inspiring to see someone who has worked so hard reach her goals.

Clearly, a lot of people feel the same way—Akinosun's tweet on July 30 has already been retweeted 160,000 times and garnered 310,000 likes on Twitter.

Turns out there's a big health benefit for girls who were considered 'late bloomers.'

According to Seventeen, a new study from the University of California San Diego School of Medicine found that women who had their first period after the age of 12—and who "experienced menopause, either naturally or surgically, at age 50 or older"—were more likely to live to at least 90.

Even though many "late bloomers" longed to get their period and jumpstart puberty once their friends started getting boobs and whatnot, it turns out a few extra years of being flat chested and having no body hair might pay off big time.

The researchers studied 16,000 women from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds, and 55% of those who got their first period after the age of 12 and started menopause after the age of 50 lived past the age of 90.

The study also shows that these women were less susceptible to certain health issues like heart disease and diabetes, and were more likely to avoid smoking as well.

Pregnant woman pole dances while in labor because she had some free time 'between contractions.'

A woman filmed herself pole dancing while in labor, and it's a major jaw dropper.

So...I'm officially in labour :) Got a few hours before we go to the hospital so thought I'd do some pole between contractions :)

Posted by Kat PoleKitty Bailey on Sunday, July 31, 2016

While Kay Bailey of Nottinghampshire, England, waited out her contractions before going to the hospital, she decided to do a few twirls, because why not?

You're probably like, Who has a pole in their bedroom? Bailey, that's who. You see, she's a professional pole dancing instructor, runs PoleKat fitness, and even previously did a video at seven months pregnant that showed Bailey comically twisting and turning.

This lady is seriously the coolest.

In response to comments that she might be doing something that could harm her baby, she's said previously...

It's not a great idea to take up a dangerous hobby when you become pregnant, but in general they do encourage exercise when you're expecting.

Keeping spinning Kay!

Reddit user Paymaker is a new dad, and although the business of being born is pretty unpleasant for mother and child alike, his daughter gave the new parents a sign that it all went alright.

Yep. Those tiny little fingers are curled into the perfect "okay!" symbol, signaling that she gave the birth a 10/10, would recommend to a friend.

Who knows though, because the "okay" symbol is dangerously close to the American Sign Language sign for "asshole," so maybe what she really meant was, "that was the worst experience of my extremely short life, you assholes!"

Or maybe she was referencing this highly popular meme:

Nah, all jokes aside, the parent's should definitely take it as a good omen. Who knows how often she will be giving such clear signs of approval over the next 18 years.

Sen. John McCain is not a fan of how Donald Trump talks about dead soldiers' parents.

Senator John McCain (R-AZ), the 2008 Republican nominee, is not down with Donald Trump's response to Khizr and Ghazala Khan, the Gold Star parents of an Army captain posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart in 2004. They appeared at the DNC and questioned whether Trump had ever sacrificed for America or read the Constitution. Trump responded that the visibly distraught mother was being kept silent because she was a Muslim woman, and that Khizr Khan had "no right" to go on TV and claim Trump hadn't read the Constitution.

The senator, who is in the middle of a tough re-election campaign, said in a statement...

"While our party has bestowed upon him the nomination, it is not accompanied by unfettered license to defame those who are the best among us... He has suggested that the likes of their son should not be allowed in the United States — to say nothing of entering its service. I cannot emphasize enough how deeply I disagree with Mr. Trump’s statement. I hope Americans understand that the remarks do not represent the views of our Republican Party, its officers or candidates."

McCain and Trump have a long history of awkward moments. Trump previously insulted McCain's honor as an iconic Vietnam POW, saying that McCain isn't a war hero because he was captured. (McCain, the son of a senator, refused early release by the Viet Cong. To this day, McCain cannot raise his arms above his shoulders due to poor medical care after his plane crash and torture at the hands of the VC.)

McCain has endorsed Trump on the grounds of I'll support whomever is the nominee of the party. This has placed him in a tough spot. He has to lukewarmly back Trump to support his reelection bid (while putting up with comments he has said "bothers me a lot"), many in his family have publicly said #NeverTrump.

Even his granddaughter wrote an entry on Medium titled "For This Republican, Never Trump Means 'I'm With Her.'"

Trump isn't giving up, though, and is still tweeting...

Maybe (just a thought) someone should change Trump's passwords, take him out to lunch, just do something to get him away from his computer (because we know he's not tweeting from that flip phone he uses).

Guy is purposefully given a wrong number by a girl, hits on the new person anyway.

Giving a dude a wrong number is a time-honored brush-off method, but that didn't stop this dude named Eric from getting his flirt on with the random person on other end of the line. Imgur user Strawberrrri suddenly started getting texts from Eric, who came out swinging with his first text, "Can I come over." Even the revelation that "Isabelle north east Bronx" had ghosted him had no effect on his mood or sex drive. He must have been particularly attracted to that phone number (read: desperate).

The funniest part is that it's the desperate dude who gets all defensive.

Some people will just fuck anything with a phone number.

Tired mom goes viral with Facebook post about the value of 'quickies.'

This "tired" mom (her words!) got really, really real about sex within a marriage. And apparently her words resonated, because her Facebook post extolling the virtues of a "quickie" has racked up thousands of "likes" and hundreds of comments since she posted it on Saturday.

Did we just have a quickie? Like a day time one? With one child at the neighbours and a baby asleep in the cot it...

Posted by Mel Watts - The Modern Mumma on Saturday, July 30, 2016

Mel Watts, mom, wife and straight-shooting mommy blogger, posted a selfie of her and her husband after a "quickie" in the middle of a chaotic day spent caring for two young children. "True to the name 'quickie; it was over before I knew it," wrote Watts in the brutally honest FB post. "A slight make up fix and hair fix and we're ready to go. "

Seems like this quickie was definitely worth it, even for this busy mom. "Now I sit here in my pjs eating a block of chocolate watching a movie knowing I can go to bed without feeling bad," she wrote. "Totally worth it."

The post has already been shared 143 times, so clearly the quickie is hot right now. Get your quickies now before this offer ends!

Study finds men trust one expert on every topic: themselves.

A recent study looking at scholarly articles found that male authors love their own writing so much that when they need an expert to back up their opinions, they'll just quote themselves.

The study, cleverly titled, "Men set their own cites high: Gender and self-citation across fields and over time," found that a shocking 10% of all scholarly citations were done by authors citing their own work. Less shockingly, the majority of authors doing this are men.

The Washington Postpoints out that there's "nothing inherently shady about this practice," especially for experts in a particularly niche subject who sometimes have no choice but to cite earlier work. But the disparity in the practice between genders is definitely intriguing.

After looking into some 1.5 million articles published between 1779 and 2011, men were found to be 56% more likely to self-cite than women. And it wasn't merely due to an 18th century lack of female scholars. The percentage of self-citing by men actually increased to 70% more than women in the last two decades.

A couple explanations were suggested: men think more highly of themselves, no matter what Ryan Gosling says. Plus, women are more likely to endure social penalties for self-promotion. So even if women did like themselves more, no one would want to hear about it.

And this is having real repercussions. The more an article is cited, the better career prospects the author has. So next time someone has an opinion about your self-promotion, tell them go cite themselves.

The little girl who plays Eleven on 'Stranger Things' is also an amazing singer.

Millie Bobby Brown hardly spoke in her breakout role as Eleven in Netflix's super popular sci-fi seriesStranger Things, but that doesn't mean the girl doesn't have pipes. The 12-year-old is not only an incredible actress, but an amazing singer as well. No fair!

Brown has been uploading videos of her singing to her YouTube channel over the course of the past year. You can even see Millie as a 10-year-old (with a head full of luscious hair) singing "Make You Feel My Love" by Adele.

Despite being so young, Brown definitely prefers singing more mature songs on her channel. She's covered "Read All About It" by Emeli Sande, "When We Were Young" by Adele, and "You Know I'm No Good" by Amy Winehouse. Yeah, she is all about that sad girl power ballad.

She does the "Bobby Brown" part of her name proud.

Unfortunately, Brown currently only has seven videos on her channel, which is definitely not enough to hold you over until season 2 of Stranger Things. Her next cover should definitely be "Should I Stay or Should I Go," though.

The judge who sentenced Brock Turner also sentenced an abusive husband to 'weekend jail' that same day.

Judge Aaron Persky, who infamously gave Stanford rapist Brock Turner a light sentence, also doled out a lenient sentence to a domestic abuser that same day. The Guardian reports that Persky heard the case of a Chinese immigrant (identified as Jane Doe) who brought domestic abuse charges against her former fiancée, Ming Hsuan Chiang. He's pictured in this tweet:

She detailed the night of the assault to The Guardian and said “If he had used more force, maybe I’d be dead or my brain would be dead.” Her testimony included graphic photographs of her injuries from the night her ex was arrested, several of which caused audible gasps in the courtroom. English is her second language, and apparently the judge got impatient throughout the case and several times asked her to hurry and wrap up her testimony. This is not helping Judge Persky's reputation.

Left: Judge Persky. Right: That pesky case that won't go away.

Chiang pleaded "no contest" to felony domestic violence and battery causing “serious bodily injury.”

However, citing his full-time job as an engineer in Silicon Valley, Persky sentenced him to "weekend jail." This means Chiang will serve 72 days in county jail, but only on weekends. His felony charge carries a maximum sentence of 4 years, which he could've served in state prison. Brock Turner was also spared a sentence in state prison for felony sexual assault.

Doe told TheGuardian that she shared her story to help other victims come forward, particularly minority women and immigrants. “Today, only I’m suffering. But how about tomorrow? How about the next girl?” she said. “Where can we search for help?”

Kim Kardashian's long, dark hair is nearly as much her trademark as her boobs or butt (okay, maybe that's an exaggeration). In Sunday's episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, for instance, her hair looked like this:

Fitness model has to plug himself in every night, has no pulse, and will make you smile.

Are you ready to be shocked and inspired? Prepare yourself. This dude, Andrew Johnson, a fitness model, has no pulse. Like, literally, his heart produces no pulse, and he has to carry batteries everywhere to keep it going. Yet he still seems like the nicest dude you'll ever meet. The world might be terrible, but people like Andrew make it bearable.

In 2012, Andrew was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, which affects the heart's ability to pump blood. Andrew spent 4 months in the I.C.U. and was fitted with a left ventricular assist device, or LVAD, which basically pumps Andrew's heart for him. The thing is, the LVAD needs power that Andrew's body can't provide, so he carries around huge battery packs that need to be recharged regularly to keep him alive.

Yes, Andrew is just like your iPhone. The LVAD is a temporary fix until Andrew gets a match for a full heart replacement. Instead of wallowing in what would be a totally reasonable situation to wallow in, Andrew decided to live. He said...

"At first I was upset at having an artificial heart, and then there was the moment that I realized that this is my life for now. Either I can dwell and feel sorry for myself, or I can continue doing the things that I love to do the best way I can. And I haven't stopped."

And as for those gnarly scars...

I'm proud of the scars that I have from my surgeries, because scars are beautiful. They're a part of you. They tell your story. And no one can take that away from you.

This dude, you guys! We can't. Buckets of inspirational happy tears everywhere. Even in the face of all of this hard life realities Andrew has been forced to tackle, he hasn't lost his sense of humor.

And now we laugh with Andrew, because he's won the day!

18-year-old actress Belle Thorne has naturally light, sparse eyebrows, so she decided to get them reinforced with some tasteful tattooing (yeah, it's apparently possible for eyebrow tattoos to be subtle these days). Luckily for you, Thorne documented the entire ordeal from beginning to end on her Snapchat, and the whole experience is oddly satisfying.

Obviously, don't watch this if you have a thing about needles that are dangerously close to eyeballs.

This weekend, Donald Trump started saying odd things about the presidential debates. First, Trump said Hillary rigged the schedule (the independent Federal Election Committee set them more than a year ago). Then Trump claimed the NFL wrote (only) him a letter complaining about the schedule. The NFL said no such letter existed, and that they knew about the debates a year ago. Everyone else was pretty sure Trump was playing the long game: he's going to bail on the debates (again).
