As if there weren't already enough things to fear about the future, now humans apparently need to worry they'll be replaced by robot twins that look like us, (if we were 10 years younger and could never make eye contact). Nadia Thalmann, director of the Institute for Media Innovation at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, has designed a robot who looks just like her, named Nadie. A press release notes:
Nadine has her own personality, mood and emotions. She can be happy or sad, depending on the conversation. She also has a good memory, and can recognise the people she has met, and remembers what the person had said before.
Nadine will serve as a receptionist at the university, because everyone loves being greeted by the uncanny valley on a daily basis.
What evil plot will Nadie come up with? To take over Nadia's life? To kill all humans? Or to spread gossip about the university's human employees so Nadie can get promoted from receptionist to office manager? Only time will tell.
