European soccer is no stranger to big money, but usually it's from shadowy billionaires and not American fast food brands—and those guys usually don't ask for a ridiculous renaming, which is what Burger King tried to do. The fast food chain offered the small Zenit St. Petersburg club 500 million rubles, (over $7.5 million) to change their name and logo to Zenit Burger King.
Fans everywhere shook their heads at this absurd proposal, but assumed that money, as it usually does, would win. Then, unexpectedly, the small Europa League team responded with a public retribution that was RTed around the world:
